India hits the never-wished feat as the COVID-19 tally passes 2 million with peaking cases!

India has attained the never-wished feat in the battle against the COVID-19 amid the containment measures and restrictions as the country's tally has crossed 2 million on Friday as the sequel of surging cases for the past few days. 

India, which is the worst-affected country by COVID-19 in Asia and third in the world after the United States and Brazil, has been witnessing peaking COVID-19 cases amid the steady rise in the recoveries. On Wednesday, India has crossed the tally of 19 lakh and it just took two days for the country to put one lakh additional cases to its tally by reaching the mark of 2 million.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India has reported 20,27,074 cases so far as of Friday morning 8 am. In the last 24 hours, the country has recorded 62,538 fresh cases- the highest single-day rise since the outbreak and through the current reporting, the country has reported more than 50,000 for the ninth consecutive day. 

The country has also recorded 886 fresh deaths taking the death toll to 41,585 so far while the total recovery currently stands at 13.78 lakh. The Health Ministry has said that the country has reported 67.98 percent recovery rate and it has 6,07,384 active COVID-19 cases as of Friday. According to the India Council Medical Research (ICMR), India has totally tested 2,27,88,393 samples so far as of Friday morning including 6,39,042 that were tested on Thursday.

India reported the first COVID-19 case on January 30 and it took 110 days for the country to reach the tally of 1 lakh COVID-19 cases and it has touched 1 million cases in 59 days after reaching 1 lakh and it just took 21 days to report 2 million cases from 1 million.  

Several states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka have been reporing biggest spikes of fresh cases contributing in the rise of the nation's tally. 

The viral infection has found the grounds of spread in the rural areas and smaller towns as the wave prevails, leaving a huge challenge to the government, frontline workers, and people in curbing the spread. With attaining the never-wished feat, the epidemiologists say the pandemic in India is likely to be months away from hitting its peak. 

At the current state, Maharashtra has the most number of COVID-19 cases in India with the total of 4.79 lakh cases followed by Tamil Nadu with 2,79,144 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1.86 lakh cases. At the global stage, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected more than 1.9 crore people of which 7.14 lakh had succumbed to the viral infection.
