'That immatured boy is now the 'Asuran' of Kollywood' - The rise of Dhanush!

You don't know where your start will take you to. Everyone get started with their passion in a belief that someday they would reach the magic point. We read a lot of success stories like that. On the other side, there are people who enter an industry without any specific goal but develop everything required to stand top in that field over the course of time. Dhanush is an actor who came to the film industry with zero percent expectations. And today, he carries with him various tags as an actor, director, singer, writer, and a producer. You could certainly imagine the amount of work put into by him all these years.

Dhanush's debut was in 'Thulluvadho Ilamai' but his real 'entry' into the industry was in 'Kadhal Kondein' which also gave us a genius filmmaker called Selvaraghavan. Dhanush's career didn't take off even after delivering few hits and working with a legend like Balu Mahendra in the initial stage of his career. His acting was considered immature and people who actually liked him were trolled for their poor taste. Dhanush tried his hand in action films very early in his career but he had to wait for success. Selvaraghavan's 'Pudhupettai' in 2006 is one of the most celebrated films of Dhanush till date but during its release, the film was unsuccessful.

Hits and flops were always part of his career. The rise of the Dhanush that we see today began from Vetrimaaran's 'Polladhavan' in 2007. Releasing alongside Vijay's 'Azhagiya Tamil Magan' and Suriya's 'Vel' on a Diwali day, the film made a genuine impression along with box-office success. Dhanush is being loved mainly for his 'next-door boy' image which was developed in movies like 'Yaaradi Nee Mohini' and 'Padikkadhavan'.

Right from the start of the new decade, Dhanush started giving importance to emotional movies like Mayakkam Enna, 3, and Maryan which proved that he is here to stay as a complete actor for a lot of years. Meanwhile, he also made his Bollywood debut with Aanand L. Rai's 'Raanjhanaa' in 2013 and the film was a blockbuster. The success has earned him an opportunity to act with Amitabh Bachchan in 'Shamitabh'.

Dhanush's collaboration with director Vetrimaaran is a special one. They united for the first time in 'Polladhavan' and it was an instant sensation. After 4 years, they worked together again in 'Aadukalam' which has won the National Award for both the director and the actor. The combination has become one of the most expected due to the original, raw storytelling of Vetrimaaran which is well supported by an actor like Dhanush who does real justice to the roles.

In 'Vada Chennai', Dhanush lived as Anbu and the audience are waiting for the second part. With 'Asuran', the combo has made a huge jump into the next level of filmmaking by discussing the actual issues of Dalits and making it as real as possible. You can act in a Vetrimaaran film only if you are ready to forget your so-called on-screen image and Dhanush fits the bill perfectly.

Dhanush has given equal importance to commercial and art films in his career. While receiving huge praise for his fantastic performance in 'Maryan', his next film was 'Velailla Pattadhari' which was a smash hit for its natural treatment and practicality in entertainment. Dhanush is a wonderful writer and singer and the song 'Amma Amma' in VIP is proof of his talents. He has made his directorial debut with 'Pa Paandi' starring the legendary actor Rajkiran in an unusual role and the film was a success.

He made his debut in Hollywood with 'The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir' in 2019. Dhanush was the first Tamil actor to become viral in the YouTube platform with his 'Why This Kolaveri Di?' song in the movie '3' in which Anirudh made his debut as a composer. The song received international recognition and became an anthem for love failure, which Dhanush himself didn't expect. Dhanush has achieved excellence in almost every craft in cinema at a very young age.
