In what has become a moment of true sportsmanship and a gesture of patting and encouraging the newly capped player, Indian wicket-keeper KL Rahul would be in the memory of young Australian player forever for the welcoming gesture given by the visitor to the debutant player of the host when the youngster came to the crease for batting.
India was playing the third ODI against Australia in Canberra during which the incident happened. The host was batting and Cameron Green had made his ODI debut. While Green had departed after scoring 21 runs, he was more touched on how he was welcomed by KL Rahul when the former came to the crease. They were conversating on the pitch and Green has revealed how Rahul welcomed him, following the match.
Cameron Green said that he was taken back by the warmth showed by Indian wicketkeeper KL Rahul. Green had made his debut in that match and revealed he was nervous when he walked in to bat but Rahul was very kind enough to share encouraging words in welcoming him to the game.
After the match, Green said, "I was actually taken back with how nice KL Rahul was behind the stumps. He asked me whether I was nervous or not and I just replied by saying 'Yeah, I was a little bit nervous'. He was like 'Yeah, go well youngster' type of thing. So I was actually a bit taken back".
Green added, "I thought it would have been pretty opposite because (while bowling), I think Virat was trying to be pretty loud at the time. Finchy (Finch) tried to get under his skin with a couple of words. So yeah, I was a bit taken back with how nice that was. I'll remember that forever". Cameron Green has become the 230th player of Australia to play ODIs for his country.
Aussie skipper Steve Smith had given a cap for 21-year-old Green ahead of making his debut. In his first ODI, Green scored 21 runs off 27 balls including a four and six, and he was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. Green had bowled four overs in which he gave 27 runs without taking wickets.
