'I apologize for any inconvenience' - PM Modi during his 'Maan Ki Baat' address!

Since taking office in 2014, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been reaching out to the people every month through his radio address of 'Maan Ki Baat' and through which he would take the prospect of speaking about the national and international developments. On Sunday, Modi addressed the 63rd edition of 'Maan Ki Baat' amid the nationwide lockdown and restrictions that have been imposed to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in the country.

In the latest edition of the radio address which lasted for thirty minutes, Modi has spoken about the outbreak of the global pandemic and the threat brought by the micro menace. This is his third address to the nation on the Coronavirus pandemic while the earlier two were televised and he, for yet another time, reiterated the people to observe and maintain social distancing to get rid of the virus. In his address, he called the nation to maintain social distance, not an emotional and human distance. He stated that social distancing is not meant to stop social interaction.

By issuing an apology to the people for any inconvenience caused during the nationwide lockdown, Modi asserted and backed the decision of implementing the complete lockdown. According to ANI, Modi stated that "I apologize for taking these harsh steps which have caused difficulties in your lives, especially the poor people. I know some of you would be angry with me. But these tough measures were needed to win this battle".

He stated that there are some people who violate the lockdown and called the violators that if the rules were broken, it would be difficult to protect from the danger of the Coronavirus. Modi has appealed to the people not to treat those who are under home quarantine as victims and asked the people to understand the sensitivity that the issue has and advised everyone to increase social distancing and reduce emotional one.

The Prime Minister took a moment to compliment the front line workers who are combating the virus including doctors, paramedical staff, nurses, and the essential service providers who are working around the clock to serve the patients and people during the period of the unprecedented lockdown that would be in place till April 14th, 2020. By iterating that the current fight is the battle for life and death, he pressed that the lockdown is the only way to combat the virus.

He further stated that the virus has confined the entire world and it has been challenging everyone including powerful, rich, poor, weak, science, and knowledge and asserted that the lockdown will keep everyone safe. In his previous televised address, Modi vowed that the nation aims to win the war against the virus in a 21-days lockdown period. According to the reports, the virus has infected more than 950 people in India and killed 22 people so far in its territory.
