US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, who is on a visit to Chennai, met veteran actor and politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday. The duo had a fun chat about the film industry and the cultural ties between the US and India. Garcetti took to Twitter to share his experience meeting the versatile star, who has been entertaining the audiences for over six decades.
“And we finally meet! What a fun chat with Dr. Kamal Haasan, an artist who has made every role possible through his exhilarating screen presence for several decades. So much to explore in the diverse film industry across south India. I am a huge fan!” Garcetti tweeted along with a picture of him and Haasan.
Garcetti, who was sworn in as the US Ambassador to India in March this year, has been meeting various celebrities and dignitaries during his visit to India. He recently met Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan at his residence Mannat in Mumbai and joked about making his Bollywood debut. He also met Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and visited the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), which was inaugurated in March.
Kamal Haasan, on the other hand, is busy with his political and film commitments. He is also awaiting the release of his much-awaited film Indian 2, directed by Shankar. The film is a sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Indian, which featured Haasan in dual roles of a freedom fighter and his son. The sequel also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Siddharth and Bobby Simha.
The veteran star is also to work on his ambitious project KH234, which is a anticipated historical reunion of the star with Maniratnam who collaborated 35 years ago for Nayagan. The film will kickstart right after the actor finishes KH233 with H.Vinoth, which recently gaining momentum with scripting and pre production works.
