Hope in Chennai: This 97-year-old man in the city successfully recovered from COVID-19!

While Chennai has been faltering under the exponential rise of the Coronavirus pandemic amid the containment strategies, the successful recovery of a 97-year-old has now become a ray of hope for the city in its fight against the global pandemic.

The recovery of the geriatric patient with the co-morbid conditions has waved the hope among the vulnerable people who are at a high risk of infection, as these people, including geriatric and people with comorbidities, have accounted for a larger part of the infection.

According to the reports, 97-year-old Krishna Murti, who is a native of Adyar, Chennai, was admitted to Kauvery hospital in the city on May 30 after he tested positive for the virus. He has developed fever, cough, and breathing difficulty and he also had co-morbid conditions including heart disease and hypertension.

The statement issued by the hospital said that he started responding to the treatment during his tenure of hospitalization and his fever came down and his breathing improved. He was also given his own food prior to discharge and his samples were collected for testing and he was successfully recovered and discharged from the hospital after the result returned negative to COVID-19.

Through the successful recovery, he has become the oldest patient in Tamil Nadu to battle and get recovered from the pandemic. In the video released by the hospital, the consultant of the infectious diseases appealed to people not to lose hope and called people to stay safe and positive. She said, "You have to understand this is a dreadful disease, we do lose people but we do have people fighting and coming out healthy". The reports further stated that the recovered geriatric patient is one of the nonagenarians in the country who recovered successfully from the infection.

Earlier, a 97-year-old man from Agra, Uttar Pradesh has recovered from the infection on June 11 after he successfully battled the threat. He was also suffering from hypertension, which is his comorbidity. However, he responded to the treatment and discharged from the hospital and the back to back recoveries of nonagenarians have become the rays of hope for the vulnerable people that they too can combat and overcome the battle against the pandemic.
