Hindutva's perilous bigotry in schools: Students should not wear 'Hijab', but they should study Bhagavad Gita!

When the announcement to implement Bhagavad Gita in the schools was made by the BJP ruling Gujarat, the opposition parties including Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have welcomed the move in a surprising fashion. The announcement has dreadfully implied that the veins of Hindutva are slowly and steadily spreading across the educational ecosystem.

The bigotry of Hindutva outfits is sickening but is getting expanded to other states when the BJP is fervently waiting for the prospect to roll out its policy of one nation and one religion. Recently, the BJP ruling state of Karnataka has witnessed the face of religious fanaticism, particularly on the Hindutva backed students who agitated against the girl students for wearing hijab inside the classroom. To counter the hijab culture, the Hindu students came to the institutions by wearing a saffron scarf to exhibit their allegiance to the religion.

The religious battle between the students had rattled the conscience of secular India, which mired in the middle of politics. The matter of anti-Hijab culture has gone to the court, which had banned wearing hijab in the classroom by observing that the hijab is not part of essential religious practise under Islam. Celebrating the victory within the heart for mitigating the Hijab culture, the Hindutva groups had showcased themselves as the saviour of secularism in the educational institutions.

The BJP and its leaders in Karnataka had welcomed the verdict while a certain number of Muslim girls had boycotted the schools after they were coerced to remove hijab inside the classroom. After curbing the Hijab culture, the BJP and Hindutva groups are all set to enter the educational institutions with their religious propaganda. The groups are going to disseminate the Hindu scriptures to all the students regardless of religion.

The recent developments suggest that BJP won't stop until reaching the core to build a Hindu Rashtra while the shaky opposition is busy fixing its unending political crisis. Within a week of the Karnataka High Court's verdict of banning the hijab in the classroom, the BJP ruling Gujarat has passed the order to introduce and inculcate Hindu scripture Bhagavat Gita in the school syllabus.

While the hijab culture didn't coerce all the students to wear even they study in Muslim institutions, Hindutva's propaganda of introducing Bhagavat Gita is coming with the power and would coerce every student under the category to study the scripture. And, Bhagavat Gita won't be the only tool of bigotry of Hindutva outfits as they are also planning to introduce Ramayana and Mahabharata in the school syllabus. With the token of victory in four states, this Hindutva propaganda would slowly grow across the country.

On Thursday- March 17, the BJP ruling Gujarat government has announced that the Bhagavad Gita will be a part of the school syllabus for Classes 6 to 12 across the state from the academic year 2022-23. Gujarat Education Minister Jitu Vaghani made the announcement in the legislative assembly during a discussion on budgetary allocations for the education department.

According to reports, the decision to introduce the values and principles enshrined in the Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum was in line with the new and controversial National Education Policy (NEP) introduced by the Modi regime. Speaking to the reporters following his announcement, minister Vaghani said people from all faiths have accepted the moral values and principles outlined in the ancient Hindu scripture. As the Hindu scripture comes to the schools through the government, the Hindutva aims to reap the ground where it can play saffronisation.

Gujarat minister Vaghani said that the students will be explained the importance of the Bhagavad Gita in the beginning and then stories will be introduced in the form of slokas, essays, debates, and plays. In line with Gujarat, BJP ruling Karnataka is all set to disseminate the Hindu scriptures among the students of all religions. After fighting to close the door for the hijab, the BJP is now opening the gates of schools for its religious principles that will be taught to every student of all religions.

Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh has on Friday -March 18 said that Bhagavad Gita is not only for Hindus and if experts suggest, it will also be introduced in schools across the state. Nagesh said, "We have studied Moral Science in schools. Somehow it has been left out for years. Many parents feel it should be introduced. At present, we have not thought of it. But we want to introduce in future. Subject in Moral Science will be decided by educational experts."

The minister further said, "Bhagavad Gita is not only for Hindus, it is for all. If experts say it will definitely be introduced - not from this year but next year. We have to decide whether Moral Science has to be introduced." The Congress party, which didn't react sharply to the Hijab ban, has now welcomed BJP's idea of implementing Bhagavad Gita in the schools. When the Gujarat Education Minister has said about introducing Bhagavat Gita between classes 6 to 12, the Congress and Aam Aadmi had welcomed the BJP's move of bigotry.

Gurajat Congress spokesperson Hemang Raval said, "We welcome the decision of inclusion of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in the syllabus. Backing the decision, Congress leader Raval said, "Gujarat has the highest number of school dropouts and many students do not even know how to read and write till Class 8. Hopefully, the government will do something for them as well. We welcome the inclusion of Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in the syllabus but that we have been learning since childhood." Gujarat Aam Aadmi spokesperson said,  "We welcome the decision made by the government of Gujarat. This will benefit the students."
