The heat of NEET erupts inequality and injustice!

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) has been unleashing row of injustices that were either committed against the students or committed by the students and the state of Tamil Nadu has been reported with back to back allegations since last month that had crafted major setbacks in the state.  While the state has already been under shock waves after it had encountered a series of impersonations committed by the students with the move of clearing the exams. About ten students were detained in the state after the proven conspiracy of alleged malpractices in the National Entrance Test.

The case of first impersonation had come to the spotlight by revealing the drama and the loopholes in the month of September, where the Dean of Theni Medical college had filed a legal complaint against the first-year student Udit Surya after the suspicious conspiracy of citing difference of the photograph in the application and his real appearance, after which the police department had booked the student and his father under the charges of alleged conspiracy following which the scam had exhumed shocking scenes since then.

The Dean had filed a police complaint against the son and the father duo after which the probe has been transferred to CBCID police that had detained Udit Surya and his father and based on their confessions, the police team had arrested about ten people including students and parents through which the state has been uncovering the presence of massive scam that had led Madras High court to issue directives to the state government to re-verify the applications and profiles of about 4,250 first-year students who have been admitted to various medical studies in the academic year of 2019-2020.

While the NEET has revealed the rackets in the state that were largely committed by wealthy students, it remains inaccessible for the poor students to pursue their dream of becoming a doctor. Since NEET has come to effect in the state, the private coaching centers have been cementing an inevitable presence in the state to train the students to clear the exams. With having more students storming in the private coaching classes by investing lakhs of money, the poor students left with no resource to afford the exorbitant fee structure.

The data that was submitted by the state government in Madras High court shows that only 2.1% of the students were able to clear the exams and secured the medical seats in government and self-financing medical colleges without attending the private coaching classes while the rest attained the ticket after multiple attempts. The data revealed that about 3081 students have secured MBBS seats in government colleges in 2019 and of those 3081, only 48 students have managed to avail seats without any private coaching and it was further known that about 1040 students have cleared the NEET in their first attempt while the rest took multiple attempts.

After being stunned by the reports, Madras High court had questioned the Central government on keeping the exam into existence and the Justices Kirubakaran and Velmurugan have collectively noted that the doors of medical colleges have been closed to the poor students since they can't clear the exams by investing lakhs of money in coaching centers and further cited that the prevailing grounds of prejudice would bring more disadvantages for the rural students. While pronouncing their statements, the Justices have underlined that NEET has been treating unequals equally and added that the higher secondary students have been pressurized to study NEET exams along with the board exams.
