Harsh Vardhan and Vijayabaskar review meet - What they discussed?

Amid the rampant spread of Coronavirus across the country, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Harsh Vardhan held a review meeting with Tamil Nadu Health Minister Vijayabaskar through video conference on Friday.

According to the reports, the virtual meeting was also attended by Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Beela Rajesh and other state government officials during which the Central minister took stock of the COVID-19 situation in Tamil Nadu and the meet has come at the high time when the state has been witnessing surging COVID-19 affected cases in the middle of lockdown and restrictions. 

Harsh Vardhan has shared the state of the virus at the national stage to Vijayabaskar and Beela Rajesh. According to the Central Minister, the country's fatality rate stands at 3.3 percent and the government has installed over 820 hospitals across India to treat the COVID-19 cases with more than 1.50 lakh beds in the intensive care units and isolation wards. 

 

The Central Minister stated that India currently has 1,898 health centers for COVID-19 and 7,608 quarantine centers in its territory and the country has tested 14.40 lakh people so far and it has equipped with 453 COVID-19 testing labs of which 332 belong to the government while 121 belong to private.

Harsh Vardhan further said that over 37 districts of Tamil Nadu have been affected by the virus spread and the state has set up 52 labs to test the samples. The Union Health Minister revealed that India has been testing 95,000 samples on an average per day. The Minister added that he had held similar meetings with the Health Ministers of Delhi, Bihar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal previously. 

During all these virtual meetings, the Central Minister had rolled out his strategy with the view of having a quality discussion with the state health ministers on fighting COVID-19. According to the Union Health Ministry, India has reported 56,342 positive cases so far of which 16,540 have recovered, and 1886 have died including 3,390 fresh cases and 103 deaths in the last 24 hours.
