Gujarat exit polls: BJP holds a clear edge to rule the state by scripting a new history!

BJP is all set to script a new history, which will be the first-of-its-kind in India, as the party holds a clear edge to win the Gujarat assembly polls and thereby, ruling the state for the sixth consecutive time. The assembly polls in Gujarat was held in two phases on December 1 and 5 and the votes will be counted on December 8.

Ahead of the official voters' verdict, a slew of exit polls that were published on Monday predicted that BJP will retain its reign in Gujarat by recording a landslide victory. In a significant push to the party, it has been predicted that the BJP will secure more seats than what it got in the previous election. If the BJP's triumph becomes official, the party would be ruling Gujarat for the record seventh time and historically, it will be the party's six consecutive victory.

The BJP has been ruling Gujarat since 1998 and there has no decline for its reign in over two decades and the trend seems to continue until the state witnesses a competitive contender. Gujarat has 182 seats and the parties that cross the majority mark of 92 will form the government. All the exit polls have predicted that BJP will win between 117 to 151 seats. Besides displaying that the BJP holds a clear edge than the opposition, the exit polls have also shown that the party is reducing the wave of dissent.

Ahead of the 2017 polls in Gujarat, around 44% of voters were against the BJP and in the end, the party has formed the government by bagging 99 seats. Such a survey was also done ahead of the 2022 polls and there was a positive sign for the party as only 33% of voters were against its rule despite the furore and setbacks during the last leg of the campaign. As it is predicted that the BJP will secure over hundred seats, the party will end the year with a magnificent success.

Moreover, it will also be celebrated as the success of the sons of the soil - Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Despite the fact that the BJP is elusive of the anti-incumbency wave, the political observers say that the incessant electoral shows held by the BJP leaders in the midst of the piping hot campaign trails had become a crucial factor for the party to retain its successful political chart in the state.

A league of BJP leaders including Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, several Union Ministers, and BJP Chief Ministers conducted campaigns in Gujarat to build a momentum for the party while most of the factions in Congress were concentrating on Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra. The exit polls show that Congress's base has been plummeting in the state as it has been predicted to win 16 to 51 seats. In 2017, Congress party won in 77 seats. What made the race even more interesting is the competitive track set up Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which is assaying to expand its base across the country and to surge as a staunch rival to the BJP.

AAP would open its account as it is expected to win 2 to 13 seats with a good percentage of vote share. In this election, BJP aimed to cross the 149 mark to breach the record created by the Congress Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki in 1985. Several political observers assert that the AAP has damaged the vote share of Congress and that the latter has got yet another sign and prospect to take the damage-control measures as the party will head into a handful of assembly elections in 2023 under the leadership of Kharge.

While the Congress is plunging on one hand, on the other hand, AAP will possibly become a national party and would strengthen its base further in Gujarat ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The reports say that BJP's incumbent Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel will have its second term and if he completes his five-year team, he will surpass several of his predecessors and would become the second Chief Minister of Gujarat to serve a longest term as the Chief Minister, only behind Narendra Modi, who served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for over 12 years.
