Amid the Coronavirus outbreak and faltering grouds of containing the spread, the political developments from Congress ruling Rajasthan state have revealed that the intra-party political war is and will be long-simmering in the national party and won't hit the end as Rajasthan's Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his Deputy Sachin Pilot had ignited the intra-party battle while battling against the global pandemic.
The recent emergence of behind the screen revolt before the nation has sent bitter and shocking developments to the party's Central leadership, as Gandhi's camp has been burdened to pacify the dissented leaders to ensure that Rajasthan won't go in the way of Madhya Pradesh.
According to the reports close to the developments, the upcoming hours would be critical for Congress party as it has to save its rule in Rajasthan before it gets toppled by the Central ruling BJP party. While the nation knows that Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot had rigid relations since they assumed power in the state in 2018, the latest crisis between them during the Rajya Sabha polls in the state had erupted the resentment into revolt and exhumed the ego-clash into the national spotlight.
The ongoing probe of the Rajasthan police and the State's Operations Group into the BJP's attempt of luring the Congress party MLAs ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls have drawn the prefix of the current revolt. The members in the faction led by Pilot allege that Ashok Gehlot has been using the probe to paint false impressions and allegations against Sachin Pilot that the latter has been working with the BJP to collapse the ruling Congress government.
On Friday, the Special Operations Group (SOG) had summoned Sachin Pilot to appear before the team for the investigation in connection to the Rajya Sabha polls that held in June. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is in charge of the SOG and it launched the probe based on the phone conversations between two BJP leaders ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls and the tapped conversations said to have raised allegations of attempting to topple the current government.
The reports stated that the two BJP leaders -Ashok Singh and Bharat Malai were arrested and an FIR has been filed against them with the phone transcript which said that the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister have been fighting and the Deputy Chief Minister says he will become the Chief Minister. Ashok Gehlot accused that the BJP has been under the operation of offering Rs 25 crore to the Congress MLAs and the independent lawmakers to switch the camp and to topple the government.
After the development of being levied with a summon and allegations against him, Sachin Pilot has raised a revolt and by skipping the cabinet meeting on Saturday, he drove to Delhi along with his faction to brief the Congress leadership about the growing tensions with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. After being known of what happened to the Congress rule when Scindia got a divorce from the Congress and switched to the BJP, over the dozens of MLAs of Sachin Pilot's camp and three independent lawmakers resorted in hotels in Delhi and Gurgoan.
The ongoing tensions have laid down the grounds that the Congress rule in Rajasthan is on the verge and on the pressure on not to lose another key state from its ship as it has lost Madhya Pradesh after Scindia toppled the government in March. However, the Congress leaders maintain that the situation in Rajasthan is not as bad as how it was in Madhya Pradesh.
According to the reports, Sachin Pilot had met Congress leader Ahmed Patel on Sunday and he has been in touch with Congress General Secretary Venugopal, who was elected to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan in June. Both the leaders said to Sachin Pilot not to take any decision in haste after being reminiscent of Madhya Pradesh. Some reports suggest that Sachin Pilot has been in talks with the BJP and claimed that he has the support of 19 MLAs. However, BJP claimed that the party will wait and watch as this has been the intra-party crisis of Congress.
The reports stated that Sonia and Rahul Gandhi have been briefed about the ongoing situation and party's interim President Sonia Gandhi will take a final call on the matter. The reports further stated that the Gehlot camp is staying with the hope that the crisis and revolt from Sachin Pilot won't topple the government. In the 200 members legislative assembly, Congress has 123 MLAs including the 19 that support Sachin Pilot.
The BJP party has 72 MLAs and would need 21 more MLAs to form the government. The state ruling party claims that the revolted members will stay with the party. However, the members admit that nothing can say with conformity in such situations as the nation watches how Congress is going the avoid Jaipur turning into Bhopal. With the shocking developments, the Congress party is ought to balance both important components- to save the power in the state and to revive its national base.
