Gangster Vikas Dubey has been killed in an encounter on Friday morning by the Special Task Force (STF) personnel in Kanpur, while he was taken for the investigation in the case of killing eight police officers last week.
Vikas Dubey was under a manhunt operation over a week in connection to killing eight police officers of Uttar Pradesh including a deputy superintendent of police. On July 3, when the police personnel approached Dubey to arrest him in connection to the case filed against him by a local resident, the gang members of the hooligan had reportedly carried the shoot out against the police officers.
The bullets fired by the gangsters had killed Deputy Superintendent of Police Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors, and four constables. Following the shocking development in detaining Vikas Dubey, the Uttar Pradesh government has installed 25 special teams to locate and arrest the hooligan. The special teams probed and surrounded the aides of Dubey and in a week's time, the police had killed five thugs of Dubey's gang in an encounter.

Kanpur and its surrounding areas were under furor in witnessing the search operation and firing. While Vikas Dubey remained at large, the government has announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for his arrest. Earlier, it was Rs 2.5 lakh and following the fierce manhunt, the special team has neared the gangster and arrested Vikas Dubey from the Mahakal temple in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain on Thursday-July 9.

After ending the manhunt, the gangster was being brought from Madhya Pradesh to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh by road by the team of UP's Special Task Force (STF). According to the reports, the convoy of five cars left with Dubey and when the convoy reached Barra police circle in Kanpur amid tight security on Friday morning, the vehicle carrying Dubey suddenly overturned after skidding on the road due to heavy rains.
The gangster and some police personnel in the vehicle were injured. Vikas Dubey used the prospect of the mishap to flee from the spot and as soon as he was taken out of the car, he reportedly snatched a pistol from a police officer and threatened to fire the police. As a retaliation, the police team shot him in his chest and heart. According to the police, he attempted to run towards the fields near the highway during which he was shot.

The encounter has happened around 6.30 am on Friday. Soon after the shoot out, the gangster was taken to Hallett Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Inspector General of Kanpur Mohit Agarwal has issued the conformity on his death. The police further stated that there were four policemen in the car which overturned. They have been injured. Commenting on the encounter, Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the vehicle didn't overturn, the government was prevented from being overturned.
