Chennai is all set for global glory by hosting the world's greatest chess tournament - the 44th Chess Olympiad from July 28 to August 10. As the city is just hours ahead to inaugurate the events, several celebrities are extending their wishes to the chessers who are participating in the tourney. In line with that, superstar Rajinikanth has shared an unseen picture of him playing chess.
Rajinikanth took to Twitter on Thursday and wrote, "#ChessOlympiad2022 An indoor game I love the most...wishing all the chess minds the very best...god bless." The picture has been going viral as several fans share the picture of Rajinikanth jumping into the trend. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the event at 6 pm on Thursday and he said he is all geared up to participate in the inauguration event of the world's iconic chess tournament.
A day ahead of the visit, Modi said that he is looking forward to visiting Chennai and cited that it's an honour for the country that the Chess Olympiad is being held in Tamil Nadu, which has a glorious association with chess. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister took to Twitter and wrote, "I am looking forward to being in Chennai for the inauguration of the 44th Chess Olympiad at 6 PM tomorrow evening. This is a special tournament and it is our honour that it is being held in India, that too in Tamil Nadu, which has a glorious association with chess."
On Wednesday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin took to Twitter and wrote, "Just 1 day to go for #ChessChennai2022. Chennai is all set to host one of the biggest sporting events in its nearly four centuries of existence." "It's time to say #WelcomeToChennai and show the world our hospitality. Let's make history!", he added. It is pertinent to note that Chennai has become the first Indian city to host Chess Olympiad and for the next two weeks, monumental Mahabalipuram will be the world for chessers from across the globe.
Chess Olympiad for chessers is like Olympics for athletes and participating in this indoor festival would be crucial for every chess player from across and beyond the borders. In this 44th Chess Olympiad, Chennai would be hosting over 2000 players and 340 teams from 188 countries. On Wednesday, Chief Minister MK Stalin reviewed and took stock of the arrangements at the arena in Mahabalipuram and notably, he played chess and the visuals of him playing chess have caught in the wave of virality.
