The buzz surrounding Dhanush's Vaathi is growing as we get closer to its theatrical release the day after tomorrow. Vaathi directed by Venky Atluri is scheduled to debut in theatres around the world on February 17. Vaathi, a bilingual film starring Dhanush, will also be released in Telugu as Sir. But the State Teachers Federation of Pondicherry's protest to have the movie's Tamil title changed because it is an act of disrespect to teachers is what has caused the most recent uproar.
Sai Soujanya of Fortune Four Cinemas and Suryadevara Naga Vamsi of Sithara Entertainments will team up on the production of this movie. Vaathi, which is set in the 1990s and centres on the theme of education, marks Dhanush's first appearance as a teacher. Concerning the Tamil title of the film, the Pondicherry State Teachers Federation (PSTF) has requested that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu immediately change the title.
The story centres on Balamurugan, a third-grade junior lecturer at Thirupathi Schools and Coaching Center , who embarks on a crusade against the system after public education is privatised and reduced to little more than a source of financial gain. The movie stars Samyuktha, a Malayalam youth sensation, alongside Dhanush, a two-time National Award winner, who embarks on Telugu industry for the first time with this film.
Other actors in the supporting cast include Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Samuthirakani, Thotapalli Madhu, Narra Srinivas, Pammi Sai, Hyper Aadhi, Shara, Aadukalam Naren, Ilavarasu, Motta Rajendran, Haree In addition, Vaathi marks the reunion of the highly successful Dhanush-G. V. Prakash Kumar team after their prior films Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Mayakkam Enna, Asuran, and Maaran.
The CBFC reportedly gave Vaathi a clean 'U' certificate. According to the reports, the movie lasts for 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 36 seconds (139.36 minutes). The film's clean U rating will be a drawcard for families. While Venkat handled the action stunts, J Yuvaraj handled the cinematography, Navin Nooli handled the editing. Sun Network purchased the satellite rights, while Netflix secured the post-theatrical streaming rights.
