Tamil Nadu BJP leader Gayathri Raghuram had invited fresh trouble on Sunday after the global social media giant Twitter had suspended her account under the grounds that she had violated its rules. Gayathri Raghuram has been a notable cinema artist across the state and she has been serving as the President of Tamil Nadu BJP's art and cultural wing.
She rose to fame after contesting in Bigg Boss Tamil season and she has been in the active politics and a vocal critic of DMK and its allied parties. She is one of the state BJP leaders active on Twitter and on Sunday, the social media giant had suspended her account for violating its rules and policies, which shocked the party's state unit which had initiated the process of recovering and retrieving her account.
According to reports, Gayathri had winged series of tweets against Viduthalai Chiruthai Katchi (VCK) Chief Thol.Thirumavalavan over 'Manu Dharma' controversy where the BJP and VCK have been locking horn against each other with staunch attacks and demands from the leaders of both the parties which have been stirring outrage in the state, which is just months away for the assembly polls.
After finding that her tweets had violated its rules, Twitter had suspended her account on Sunday. Gayathri Raguram's account which goes by the username @gayathriraguram has over 3.69 lakh followers including senior BJP leaders and her supporters. Speaking to a news agency, the Tamil Nadu BJP unit's IT wing President said that Gayathri's account was suspended during the wee hours of Sunday on the basis of copyright.
By citing that his Twitter account was on the verge of suspension, he said that his account was verified and he had received the notification concerning the suspension following which he responded and appealed against the false report. He stated that Gayathri's account was not a verified one that had left her to face the suspension.
Some reports say that the state unit had worked with Twitter India and restored within thirty hours since the suspension. The reports quoted the Tamil Nadu BJP IT wing president saying that the account was restored on Monday and after the restoration, Gayathri had even tweeted that she will always come back stronger. The reports quoted that she had tweeted that Prashant Kishor, DMK political strategist, with the support of the DMK IT wing had worked to suspend her Twitter account.
However, her Twitter account was still under suspension by the time of writing this article and she is yet to get it retrieved back. In what has become an aberrant development, the suspension has come at a high time when the Tamil Nadu BJP has been attacking Thirumalavan by alleging that the latter had made derogatory remarks against women while he was addressing a webinar about 'Manu Dharma', the ancient book of laws which the Hindus consider as a code of conduct.
Gayathri had used to face similar suspension in the past as her account was suspended last year after she had reportedly tweeted and posted video messages that violated Twitter rules under the grounds of abusive behavior. On Tuesday, BJP leader Khushbu got arrested along with her supporters in Chennai when she was going to Chidambaram to participate in the party's protest against Thirumavalavan.
