Popular director Atlee, who is known for helming the movies like Raja Rani, Theri, Mersal, and Bigil, has landed in fresh trouble in his first Bollywood venture as his movie with actor Shah Rukh Khan has met with a setback. Atlee is directing the movie 'Jawan' starring Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara. In the midst of a paced shooting schedule, the director has invited controversy over the movie's story.
Atlee is no newcomer to the unpopular opinions of copycat stories in Kollywood and now, such allegation has been mounted against him on his Bollywood venture. According to our sources, a shocking complaint has been filed against Atlee accusing him of exercising plagiarism. The complainant claimed that Atlee's 'Jawan' is a copy of the Tamil movie 'Perarasu' starred veteran actor Vijayakanth in dual roles.
Veteran producer Manickam Narayanan, the owner of the production company 'Seventh Channel', moved his complaint to the producers' council on Friday and he alleged that Atlee plagiarised the plot of "Perarasu" for his Bollywood movie Jawan. In addition, the producer had stated that Atlee would face appropriate punishment if found guilty. The producer sent a letter to both the Producers Council and the South Indian Film Chamber.
The movie's teaser, which was released earlier in June, featured the iconic star Shah Rukh Khan with his face in the dark and bandages wrapped around his face. He notices his dark reflection in the window panes as a train passes. When the final shot of the teaser shows Shah Rukh sitting on a bench at what appears to be a train station, it suggests that he is getting ready for a covert mission.
In the 2006 movie 'Perarasu', Vijayakanth played the dual roles of twin brothers - Perarasu and Ilavarasu. The former is looking to kill a minister in retaliation for the death of his father, whereas the latter is a responsible CBI officer. Whether Perarasu exacted his vengeance and Ilavarasu faithfully carried out his duty determines the resolution of the Udhayan-directed film.
Jawan also stars Nayanthara as the female lead and marks the Bollywood debut of both the actress and Atlee. The film is bankrolled by Red Chillies Entertainment. Jawan is slated for release on June 2, 2023, in the languages of Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. Few reports have claimed that Vijay and Deepika Padukone also featured in cameo roles for the upcoming flick.
