The health condition of former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has worsened on Tuesday and he has been undergoing treatment under ventilator support.
The development has come a day after he had undergone brain surgery in the Army's Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi to remove the clot. The 84-year-old former president was admitted to the military hospital on Monday afternoon and he was tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection hours before the surgery.
Though the surgery has completed successfully, the hospital said he has been in the critical state and under ventilator support and he has been getting monitored by the team of doctors. On Tuesday evening, the Army hospital has released the latest statement concerning the health condition of the former Commander-in-Chief.
In the statement, the hospital said, "Former President Pranab Mukherjee who underwent emergency surgery for brain clot on 10th August, has not shown any improvement & his health status has worsened. He remains on ventilatory support. His health continues to remain critical".

Earlier, the hospital said that the former president was admitted at 12.07 pm on Monday- August 10, 2020, in a critical condition. It further stated that the procedure had revealed that there was a large clot in his brain for which he had undergone the emergency life-saving surgery.
On Monday, he tweeted that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and requested all those who came in close contact with him to get tested and isolated. Following the development, national leaders beyond the party lines have been wishing him a speedy recovery. On Monday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has visited the Army hospital and enquired about the health condition of the former president.
Pranab Mukherjee's successor and incumbent Ram Nath Kovind had spoken to the former's daughter on Monday and asked about the health condition. National leaders like Congress's Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami had wished the former president a speedy recovery.
Pranab Mukherjee was the 13 President of India and served the nation's highest office from 2012 to 2017 and during his decades' long political career, he has been conferred with various awards and recognitions including the nation's highest civilian honor - the Bharat Ratna in 2019 and he was bestowed with the Best Parliamentarian Award in 1997 and the Best Administrator in India Award in 2011.
