Former President Pranab Mukherjee's health declines, continues to be in deep coma!

The health condition of former President Pranab Mukherjee has declined and he continues to be in the state of deep comatose and under the support of the ventilator as he has been battling the COVID-19 viral infection and for survival for the past three weeks.

The 84-year-old former head of state has been getting treated in the Army Research and Referral hospital in Delhi since he was tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic. The hospital has released a statement on Monday- August 31, concerning his health condition in which it said that there is a decline in his health condition and he has been monitored by a team of specialists. 

The statement reads, "There is a decline in the medical condition of former President Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday. He is in septic shock due to his lung infection & is being managed by a team of specialists. He continues to be in a deep coma & on ventilator support". 

 

The development has come even as the national leaders have been expressing their wishes to him for his speedy recovery. On August 10, he was admitted to the Army Research and Referral Hospital for emergency surgery of removing a clot from his brain and prior to the surgery, he was tested for the COVID-19 viral infection and his results confirmed that he had contracted to the pandemic following which he requested everyone those who came in close contact with him to get isolated and tested. 

Though the surgery was successful, his health had developed complications and he was moved under the support of the ventilator after he was spelled at a critical state. He has been monitored by a team of doctors. He later developed a lung function and kidney dysfunction and went into the state of comatose. He continues to be in deep come for over a week as the hospital said there has been no stable improvement of his health. 

In the latest statement, it had said his health condition has been declined and he is in septic shock due to his lung infection. Pranab Mukherjee was the 13 President of India who held the nation's highest office from 2012 to 2017 and he is the immediate predecessor of incumbent Ram Nath Kovind. Previously, Mukherjee had served as Union minister in powerful portfolios under the UPA regime. He has been conferred with the nation's highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna' last year.
