Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has, on Monday said, that he has confirmed to have contracted to the COVID-19 viral infection, becoming another national political figure to get affected by the global pandemic.
Pranab Mukherjee was India's 13th President and served from 2012 to 2017 and he is the immediate predecessor of the incumbent Ram Nath Kovind. The former president issued conformity through Twitter that he has spelled positive for the virus and he requested the people who came in close contact with him to get isolated and tested for COVID-19.
By taking to Twitter, Mukherjee said, "On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19. #CitizenMukherjee".

After knowing the development, national leaders have been wishing him a speedy recovery from the viral infection. Pranab Mukherjee has joined the list of the national figures who had tested positive for the pandemic. Earlier, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh, BS Yediyurappa of Karnataka, Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit had tested positive for COVID-19.
Along with these leaders, some of the MPs including Karti Chidambaram, and several BJP leaders of Uttar Pradesh had also spelled positive for the viral infection. The current development has come when India had seen a fresh spike in positive cases. According to the reports, in the last 24 hours till Monday morning 8 am, India has reported 62,064 fresh cases, 54,859 discharges, and 1007 deaths.
According to the Union Health Ministry, the country has reported 22,15,074 positive cases so far as of Monday morning 8 am of which 7,23,717 are active, 15,35,743 have bee discharged, and 44,386 had succumbed to the viral infection.
