A biopic of Karnataka's Opposition leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is likely to take place before the assembly elections in April and May 2023. Former MLA Shivaraj Tangadagi and B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan have taken the initiative to produce the film. As for the current developments, negotiations are underway to cast the well-known Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi as Siddaramaiah.
The flick will be directed by Satya Ratnam. While it has been touted that Siddaramaiah is yet to stamp his approval for his biopic, the idea was floated by his supporters. It has been reported that ex-minister Shivaraj Tangadagi is eager to provide funding for the biopic. He said that a group of young people from Siddaramaiah's home district were working on making a film about the politician's life.
"Siddaramaiah has sought time citing elections, but our desire is to meet him again, fixing a date either on December 6,7 or 8 to get his approval and make the cinema", he added. Responding to the newly arisen topic, Siddaramaiah told, "Some people came to me from the Kanakagiri constituency saying they want to do a film. That’s all I know".
He clarified that he will not act. "Not me...I don’t know acting", he stated. They have even registered a production company with the name MS Creations, as per Tangadagi's statement. According to rumors, Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi is in talks to play the 75-year-old Congress leader on the big screen. The actor whose next film, Ponram's DSP, is due out in theatres on December 2.
Siddaramaiah was born into a farming family in the small village of Siddaramanahundi, from T. Narasipura in the Mysore district. He went on to earn a B. Sc. and LL.B. from Mysore University. Mysore attorney Nanjunda Swamy saw him practising law in the district courts and encouraged him to enter politics. He contested in the election to the Mysore Taluka and ultimately won. In 1983 he was sworn into the 7th Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Siddaramaiah served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka from May 2013 to May 2018. He is currently serving as the Leader of Opposition in the assembly.
