Former IPS officer Annamalai gets a top post in TN BJP in four days after he joined the party!

Former Indian Police Service Officer Annamalai Kuppuswamy has, on Saturday, been appointed as the vice-president of the Tamil Nadu BJP, four days after he joined the Central ruling party as a basic member.

In his career as the police officer, Annamalai was nicknamed as the 'singam' of Karnataka police as he had gained a significant place in the state police force in the short span of time and in May 2019, he quitted from the law enforcement agency and returned to Tamil Nadu to help in the development of his native land. Since he exited from the police service, he had been backing the BJP and claimed Prime Minister Modi as his favorite leader.

In many interviews with the media, he had apparently rationalized himself that he would be beginning his second innings on the political ground. It was speculated that he would be joining the political party that is yet to be started by Actor and political hopeful Rajinikanth.

However, on August 25, he dotted the speculations after he officially joined the BJP in the presence of BJP National President JP Nadda, BJP National Secretary Muralidhara Rao, and BJP Tamil Nadu President L Murugan.

After joining the party, he addressed the reporters in Delhi during which he said he would be strengthening the movement in Tamil Nadu and he will work towards bringing the nationalist spirit to Tamil Nadu. Annamalai has joined the BJP at the high time when Tamil Nadu is just months away for the state legislative elections. The saffron party is mulling to make better use of him in the ailing grounds of the party in the state.

Four days after he joined the party, Annamalai has now been given a powerful post in the state unit. According to the press release issued by the party on Saturday, Former IPS officer has been appointed as the vice-president of the Tamil Nadu BJP unit. The press release was signed by Tamil Nadu BJP President L Murugan in which the latter wished the former police officer a success for future endeavors.

The reports say that Annamalai is expected to work for the BJP in Chennai and Coimbatore ahead of the legislative elections in the state. A native of Karur, Tamil Nadu, Annamalai was the 2011 batch IPS officer and he has held some of the powerful posts in Karnataka state police where he was nicknamed as 'Singam' for his tough action on criminal activities.

On the other hand, the case has been filed against Annamalai after he joined the party under the grounds of the Epidemic Diseases Act on charges of unlawful assembly along with the party members. The case was filed by the Coimbatore city police by citing that the party had violated the lockdown restrictions by conducting the grand welcome for the police officer turned politician.
