Former ADMK MP RT Gopalan has passed away at his residence in Cumbum, Theni district on Monday.
According to the reports, he was aged 77 and died due to age-related ailments. He had been in the political party since its inception and he observed close association with ADMK founder and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran.
The deceased served as Member of Legislative Assembly from Cumbum constituency when MG Ramachandran was the state Chief Minister. He contested in the legislative polls from Cumbum in 1980 as ADMK candidate and defeated the rival DMK candidate in 47,577 votes.
After serving in the state legislative assembly, he went on to serve as the party's Rajya Sabha MP, which is the upper house of the Parliament. He served as MP from 1986 to 1992 after which he stayed off from active politics.
The reports stated that he has been ailing with prolonged illness and age-related ailments and undergoing treatments. However, he breathed his last and passed away in his residence on Monday at the age of 77.
