Former ADMK MLA Nanjil Murugesan has on Wednesday met VK Sasikala at her residence in Chennai and asserted his support to the expelled ADMK General Secretary. The development has come a day after Sasikala arrived in Chennai after serving four years of a prison sentence in Parapanna Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru.
VK Sasikala had arrived in Chennai in the wee hours of Tuesday after a 23-hour long journey from Bengaluru amid the rousing welcome from thousands of her supporters who stood throughout her way. She arrived in Chennai by carrying the sharp speculations about her political resurgence and a strong message to the current ADMK leaders that she is ready for the battle of taking over the leadership of the party ahead of the election.
She straightly drove to the residence of ADMK's Founder MG Ramachandran after reaching Chennai and she paid floral tribute to MGR, who was also the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. After paying tribute, Sasikala arrived at the residence that belongs to Krishnapriya, the daughter of Ilavarasi, in T Nagar, Chennai amid a tight watch from the eyes of the ruling leaders.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, who was a supporter turned archnemesis for Sasikala, has been warning the ADMK leaders not to support and join Sasikala and her faction. The party's leadership has also sacked some of the members from across the state for showing support and welcoming Sasikala to Chennai. Amid such developments, the former ADMK MLA has met Sasikala when the party is into the first day of Sasikala's arrival.
According to reports close to the developments, former ADMK MLA Nanjil Murugesan has on Wednesday met Sasikala in her residence in Chennai. During the meeting that lasted for some minutes, Murugesan has asserted his support for Sasikala. Following the meet, Murugesan addressed the reporters during which he said, "I will forever remain true to Sasikala. The people who are defaming her today will come towards her soon".
His meet has triggered strong speculations about whether Sasikala is covering the former and expelled ADMK leaders to support her politics that would possibly go against the ADMK or towards taking over the control of the party ahead of the assembly polls. While she was on her way to Chennai, Sasikala said that she will definitely plunge into active politics and urged everyone to stay united as the children of Jayalalithaa.
Nanjil Murugesan had served as an ADMK MLA representing the Nagercoil constituency in the previous assembly, from 2011 to 2016. On July 27, 2020, ADMK leaders Edappadi Palaniswami and Panneerselvam had expelled Murugesan from the party after he was booked under the sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on the charges of raping a 15-year-old girl for more than two years.
After being booked for the charges of sexual assault, Murugesan has gone absconded and on July 29, he was arrested by the police in Tirunelveli district. He was booked under sections 3(a) - penetrative sexual assault with a sexual organ, 4 - punishment for penetrative sexual assault, 7- sexual assault by touching vital organs, 8- punishment for sexual assault, 11(3) - shows any object to a child in any form or media for pornographic purposes, 12- punishment for sexual harassment, and 17 - punishment for abetment under the POCSO Act. However, he was later granted bail.
