Former ADMK Minister passes away in Chennai! Leaders pay tribute

Former ADMK Minister Aranganayagam has on Thursday passed away at the age of 95 in Chennai due to his age-related ailments. He was a senior leader of the party and had served as the minister in Jayalalithaa's first cabinet. He also had served as the ADMK's legislator for four times. 

He had served in the legislative assembly four times, twice from the Thondamuthur constituency (1984 and 1991) and twice from the Coimbatore West constituency (1977 and 1980) from the ADMK's ticket. Besides being one of the key MLAs of the party under MGR's leadership, he later emerged to be one of the strongest supporters of Jayalalithaa after MGR's death in 1987. 

Aranganayagam had served as the Minister of Education in the sixth assembly and he also had served as the Minister of Education in the first Jayalalithaa's cabinet from 1991 to 1996. After remaining as a staunch supporter of ADMK, he had then joined DMK and he quitted from Karunanidhi's camp before the 2014 Lok Sabha polls. He remained to be one of the well-known senior politicians in the state. 

Aranganayagam was convicted on 17th April 2017 for three years for amassing wealth is a disproportionate case. After the conviction, he stayed off from active politics for his age constraints. He had been under medication for his age-related ailments and last month, he had developed breathing discomforts post which he was admitted to a private hospital in Guindy, Chennai.

He was bedridden at the hospital and battling for survival. Amid the treatment, Aranganayagam had breathed his last on Thursday at the age of 91 due to his age-related ailments. After knowing his demise, several ADMK leaders have been paying tribute to the departed soul and expressing their condolences for his family members.
