Former ADMK Minister is hospitalized in Chennai: Here's what happened!

Former ADMK Minister CV Shanmugam has on Saturday admitted to a private hospital in Chennai. The sudden hospitalization of the 56-year-old leader has shocked the party and several leaders and functionaries have been wishing him a speedy recovery.

According to reports, Shanmugam has been admitted to a private hospital in Thousand Lights, Chennai after he has complained of severe stomach pain. The sources in the know say that the former minister has been getting treated by a team of doctors and his health condition is stable and responding to the treatments.

It has been reported that Shanmugam will be discharged after his health improves and based on the doctors' advice. The reports say he will be going through investigations and tests during his hospitalization. The hospital will likely be releasing an official bulletin concerning Shanmugam's health condition.

Shanmugam had served as the Minister for Law and Prisons in Edappadi Palaniswami's cabinet in the previous ADMK regime. He had contested in the Villupuram constituency in the recently-held state assembly polls. However, he had conceded a defeat to the DMK candidate. Shanmugam is one of the notable leaders in the ADMK.

On the other hand, Shanmugam has been locking horns with expelled ADMK's General Secretary VK Sasikala. Being a staunch critic of Sasikala, the former minister had filed a complaint against Sasikala by alleging that Sasikala's supporters have been making frequent abusive calls and death threats to him after he made a statement against Sasikala to the media on June 7. In his complaint, Shanmugam further said that he had received over 500 calls on his mobile phone and through social media.

He demanded the police to file a complaint against Sasikala for issuing death threats to him. Nearly three weeks after filing the complaint, the Roshanai police have on last Tuesday booked a case against Sasikala and 500 unidentified persons in connection to issuing abusive calls and death threats to the former minister. An FIR has been registered against them under sections 506(1) - criminal intimidation, 507 - criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication, 109- punishment for abetment, and section 67 of the IT Act.
