DMK President and Tamil Nadu Opposition leader MK Stalin has urged the state government to follow Telangana and to defer the board exams for tenth-grade students in the state, which has been scheduled to commence on June 15, amid peaking COVID-19 cases and lockdown.
The opposition leader has quoted Telangana as an example after the Chandrasekar Rao government hasn't deferred but canceled the board exams for the tenth-grade students in the state owing to the Coronavirus outbreak. The Telangana government said that the tenth-grade students would be promoted to the next class based on the internal evaluation mark and academic performances of the students.
Telangana has become the first state to cancel the board exams which has drawn attention from the other states. By comparing the tallies of both states, Stalin has voiced against the ruling ADMK government to follow Telangana to postpone the exams as the soaring cases would push students and teachers into a high risk.
He asked the government why can't it defer the exams and is it appropriate to Tamil Nadu to conduct the exams with 33,229 cases in its tally while Telangana, which has 3,650 cases, canceled the exams. Stalin further asked Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami to promote the students without conducting the exams.
The Madras High court had also given a scathing response to the state government in its hurry to conduct the exams at the time when cases are surging. On Monday, the High Court bench said that its the matter of the lives of 9 lakh students and asked the government to rethink of conducting the exams by the second week of July.
The court has adjourned the hearing on June 11 during which it would possibly pronounce the verdict on whether or not to postpone the exams and the students have been waiting for an answer from the high court for the question of the board exams. According to the reports, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami would likely be meeting the concerned minister and officials on Tuesday to decide on how the government is going to play on the board exams.
