For the first time since the invasion of the Russian troops into Ukraine, Moscow has admitted losses on its side of warfare amid posing a threat to the former Soviet colony even as there were reports that both the countries have agreed to have talks. The admission has come after Ukraine has said that its defence forces had killed thousands of Russians and bombed the defence establishments and missile systems of the neighbour-turned-adversary.
On Saturday, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that around 3,500 Russian soldiers had been killed or injured so far. Adviser Oleksiy Arestovych said, "We are striking the enemy around Kyiv. The enemy is not moving for now." His remarks cast an assertion from Kyiv that Russian forces weren't advancing. The statement had quickly drawn global attention as it has denoted that Russia has braced up a massive downfall in the loss of its military men.
Several visuals from the Ukrainian government had shown that its drones were destroying the Russian missile system as the war is getting more aggressive in the midst of the grounds for diplomatic talks. Following Ukraine's statement, Russia has on Sunday admitted that it has suffered a loss and that the Russian troops were killed and injured in Ukraine. However, Moscow didn't divulge the number of casualties, which remains suspense.
Russia's Army spokesperson Igor Konashenkov has on Sunday - on the fourth day of its invasion said, "Russian servicemen are showing courage and heroism while fulfilling combat tasks in the special military operation. Unfortunately, there are killed and injured among our comrades." He further said that the Russian Army would return Ukrainian prisoners of war who surrender to their families.
Monday- February 28 is the fifth day of the conflict-turned-war between Russia and Ukraine. Though the Ukrainian forces are dwarfed before the Russian troops, the administration in Kyiv has been pushing the forces ahead and to withstand the Russian cavalry. The Ukrainian president has been residing in the country and has been addressing the people at regular intervals concerning the conflict and pledging not to surrender to Russia.
On the other hand, hundreds of thousands of people are protesting in several countries against the Russian invasion and to show solidarity with Ukraine. The western countries and the European Union have been imposing severe sanctions on Moscow and certain countries had closed their airspace for the Russian aircraft. Lakhs of Ukrainians are fleeing the country and even found refuge in tunnels and subways. They had expressed their audacity and slammed Russia for pushing their lives into peril.
The war has killed thousands of civilians and the UN Refugee Agency has earlier said that over 1,00,000 people have left Ukraine to the neighbouring countries. On Sunday, European Union members had announced new sanctions against Russia and assured Ukraine of military support in the coming days.
