The ardent fans of superstar Rajinikanth have opened April month with the proud news and relishing moment to celebrate the actor as Rajinikanth will be bestowed with India's highest award in cinema- Dadasaheb Phalke Award. In what has become a profound honor for Rajinikanth who decorates the Indian cinema industry as the Superstar for over four decades, the award will be conferred to him on May 3.
Rajinikanth will be receiving the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javedkar has on Thursday confirmed that the superstar will be honored with the highest recognition. Taking to Twitter, Javedkar wrote, "Happy to announce #Dadasaheb Phalke award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in history of Indian cinema Rajnikant ji His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic".
The award, which also is termed as the cinema's Bharat Ratna for being the highest honor of the Indian cinema, is presented by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under the Directorate of Film Festivals. Rajinikanth has been in the rain of wishes from across and beyond the borders ever since the announcement was made as thousands of people including national leaders and celebrities have been extending their wishes to the superstar for the award and commending his contribution to the Indian cinema.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one among the first in line to wish Rajinikanth. Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister said, "Popular across generations, a body of work few can boast of, diverse roles and an endearing personality...that’s Shri @rajinikanth Ji for you. It is a matter of immense joy that Thalaiva has been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Congratulations to him." It must be noted that this is for the first time that Modi had called Rajinikanth 'Thalaiva', which is how he is being called by his fans.
Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu said, "Hearty congratulations to Shri @rajinikanth on being conferred the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Over the past many years, the versatile actor has been enthralling people by portraying a vast array of roles depicting myriad hues of human experience and emotions."
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami took to Twitter and said, "I have called Rajinikanth over the phone and conveyed my wishes to him for receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The Dada Saheb Phalke Award recognizes your (Rajinikanth) hard work in the film industry. I pray to God that you (Rajinikanth) will receive many more awards and live long." DMK President MK Stalin took to Twitter and wrote, "I am glad to know that my dear friend and selfless artist Rajinikanth is conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award".
"Though it is a delay, it is welcomed. Congratulations to my friend Rajini, who is a symbol for acting and friendship, for continuing his artistic journey forever", the DMK President added. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Panneerselvam took to Twitter and said, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Rajinikanth for receiving India's highest civilian honor Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his immense contribution to the cinema industry".
Rajini's close friend Kamal Haasan took to Twitter and wrote, "It gives me great pleasure that the highest award, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, is being announced for the supreme star and my dear friend Rajinikanth. The award is 100% appropriate for Rajini, who has proven that the fans can be won by appearing on screen". Tollywood star Mahesh Babu wrote, "Congratulations @rajinikanth sir on being awarded the #DadasahebPhalkeAward!! Your contribution to cinema is unparalleled! Truly an inspiration."
Reputed Telugu actor Chiranjeevi took to Twitter and wrote, "Elated at the announcement of the prestigious #DadaSahebPhalke Award to my dear friend @rajinikanthTruly deserving. Your contributions to the film industry are immense my friend! Hearty congratulations! May the force be with you!!" Music composer Anirudh Ravichander used hashtags of Dadasaheb Phalke, Thalaiva, and Superstar to celebrate the announcement and he posted Rajinikanth's picture from the Padaiyappa movie. Producer Dhananjayan said, "It's huge news. Great recognition for the biggest Superstar @rajinikanthsir. Hearty congratulations sir. We are proud of you for this lifetime achievement."
