For the first time, MK Stalin reshuffles his cabinet...Is this the reason behind the change?

For the first time since taking the office, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has reshuffled his cabinet and the announcement about the change was made on Tuesday -March 29, a day after he arrived in Chennai after wrapping up his first overseas tour to Dubai. The change has swiftly drawn huge attention in the midst of expectations of the cabinet overhaul after the budget.

According to reports, Tamil Nadu Minister for Transports, Rajakannappan was the one who faced action from the Chief Minister. The minister has invited a slew of controversies and has stayed under scrutiny. As he has landed in more trouble after being accused of degrading a government official based on his caste, the Chief Minister has ordered the change and transferred him to another department.

In an official press release, Raj Bhavan of Tamil Nadu said, "Based on the recommendations of the Hon'ble Chief Minister, the portfolios of 'Transport, Nationalised Transport, and Motor Vehicles Act' dealt with by Thiru RS Rajakannappan has been allocated to Thiru SS Sivasankar and re-designated him as Minister for Transport and the portfolios of 'Backward Classes Welfare, Most Backward Classes Welfare, and Denotified Communities Welfare' dealt with by Thiru SS Sivasankar has been allocated to Thiru RS Rajakannappan and re-designated him as Minister for Backward Classes Welfare."

According to our sources, minister Rajakannappan has been accused of verbally assaulting a government official based on the latter's caste. Rajendran, a development officer in the Mudhukulathur panchayat of the Ramanathapuram district, belongs to the scheduled caste. He was called by Rajakannappan to his home and as per the minister's order, Rajendran went to his home on March 27- Sunday.

After Rajendran reached the minister's residence, he was verbally assaulted by the minister based on his caste. Rajakannappan had further threatened Rajendran that he will transfer him from his post. After being insulted by the minister, Rajendran has moved his complaint to the government in which he said that the minister's remarks had hurt him more. When this incident came to light, it has further put the minister in trouble.

Following the complaint from the government official, our sources say that the Chief Minister has now removed Rajakannappan from the post of Transport Minister and put him as the in-charge of the backward classes' welfare. While the reshuffle has been counted as the first after MK Stalin came to power, it has been reported that the state will expect more such changes in the coming days and the DMK claims that through the reshuffle, the Chief Minister has sent a warning to his cabinet ministers.
