Tamil Nadu Minister and senior ADMK leader Kadambur Raju has invited fresh trouble three weeks ahead of the assembly polls as an FIR (First Information Report) has been filed against him under the grounds of obstructing the election commission official, who is part of the flying squad, from checking his vehicle.
Kadambur Raju is a sitting MLA of the Kovilpatti constituency in the Tuticorin district and he has got the ADMK's ticket to contest in this constituency again for the upcoming assembly polls. As the election schedule has been announced for the state, Tamil Nadu has been brought under the ambit of the Model Code of Conduct, which restricts the implementation of new schemes and acts against corrupt practices such as bribing and intimidation of voters and impersonation of voters that are offenses under the election law.
The Election Commission has deployed the flying squad across the state to monitor and barricade the grounds of the unlawful exercises and the election officials have installed check posts and checking the vehicles to restrict the transportation of illegitimate money. On Friday evening, the flying squad official had checked Kadambur Raju's car in Kovilpatti. However, the minister didn't encourage the act and attempted to stop the official from carrying out his work.
According to reports, Kadambur Raju was campaigning in Kovilpatti on Friday and his vehicle was put under examination at a check post, and an official from the flying squad had begun checking his car. Shockingly, the minister had begun obstructing the official from checking his car. The minister had his supporters had failed to cooperate during a vehicle check by a flying squad official Marimuthu and the party workers had allegedly abused the squad team and the Tahsildar.
Following the incident, Marimuthu had approached the Nalatinputhur police department to file a complaint. Initially, the police said that a community service register (CSR) was issued based on the complaint and it was later converted into FIR and the police had booked a case against minister Kadambur Raju for obstructing the election commission official from carrying out his duty.
On Sunday, the police had filed an FIR against the minister under sections 353 - assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty and 506(i) - criminal intimidation of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). While the reports say that the Tahsildar was transferred to Vilathikulam under the minister's influence, Tuticorin district collector Senthil Raj had denied and asserted that no such transfer has happened.
The shocking development has come a day ahead of when the senior political leaders will file nominations for the polls. Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami, the senior ministers of the ruling party, DMK President MK Stalin, and Naam Tamilar Katchi Chief Seeman will be filing their nominations on Monday at their respective constituencies. Tamil Nadu will go for the single-phase poll on April 6 and the votes will be counted on May 2 during which the final results will be announced on who is the winner.
