Amid the growing tensions over the Coronavirus (COVID19) which has become pandemic across the world, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami has on Tuesday appealed to the doctors and the scientists in the state to come up with the cure for combating the epidemic. He further urged the doctors to set Tamil Nadu as an example for the country.
While addressing the gathering after launching the Tamil Nadu Health System Reform Programme (TNHSRP) which was set up with the investment of Rs 2,857 crore, the Chief Minister called on the experts to find a vaccine for the COVID19 in the state and make the state proud by setting an example to rest of the country.
The reports say that the implemented scheme will focus on three key areas - management of non-communicable diseases and injuries, improved quality of care, and reduced equity gaps in reproductive and child health.
The Chief Minister stated that the programme has emerged as a model state to provide quality healthcare and he claimed that the state has been on the limelight in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the maternal mortality ratio (MMR) and the infant mortality rate (IMR). Deputy Chief Minister of the state Panneerselvam said the World Bank has provided a loan of Rs 1,999 crore for this five-year programme while the rest has been invested by the state government. Pannerselvam asserted that once the scheme is implemented, the government-run hospitals would be equipped with services similar to the private hospitals.
As per the reports, the scheme will also undertake the quality certification of the government hospitals towards improvising the quality and standards of the medical service. It will keep the focus on non-communicable diseases like cancer, blood pressure, diabetes, and psychological disorders and it will also concentrate on lowering the deaths due to road accidents. Currently, more than 2000 people in Tamil Nadu are been quarantined and they have been monitored to make sure that the epidemic won't spread across the state. On Monday, the Union Health Ministry has confirmed that India currently houses two confirmed cases of Coronavirus - one in Delhi and the other in Telangana and they have been under observation.
