Finally, ADMK reaches a deal with PMK in TN Polls: What's next and will BJP win its demand?

Amid the heated speculations over the seat-sharing for the upcoming assembly polls, the Tamil Nadu ruling ADMK has allotted 23 seats for one of the allies Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) for the elections and the development has come a day after the government had passed the reservation bill of providing reservation for the Vanniyar Community, that was demanded by PMK.

On Saturday, hours ahead of the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Chennai to frame out the seat-sharing with the ADMK for the Central ruling BJP, the ADMK has made the announcement that the party has decided to allocate 23 legislative seats for PMK. The final level of talks for seat-sharing between ADMK and PMK had held a hotel in Chennai.

The meeting was going on for many hours and the parties had reached conclusion in the evening hours of Saturday following which the leaders of both parties had addressed the media. The announcement that the ADMK had provided 23 seats to PMK was made by ADMK's Coordinator and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Panneerselvam in the presence of party's joint coordinator and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami.

PMK leaders GK Mani and Anbumani Ramadoss were also present in the meeting along with senior ministers and ADMK leaders. Panneerselvam announced that the party had decided to provide 23 seats to PMK and following the announcement, the leaders had exchanged the agreement. However, the ADMK had said that the constituencies allotted to PMK are yet to be decided and the party will be finalized in the next level of talks.

The announcement had drawn major significance as PMK has joined the ADMK alliance for the first time in twenty years for the legislative elections. The reports have earlier indicated that the PMK has demanded around 30 seats from the ADMK for the polls. However, the talks were ended by accepting 23 seats from both sides. Though the details of constituencies hadn't got finalized, it has been reported that PMK will get seats from the Northern part of Tamil Nadu where it has the stronger vote base of the Vanniyar community.

After the meeting, Anbumani Ramadoss had addressed the reporters during which he said that the ADMK alliance will have a huge victory in the polls. The reports say that PMK had got a better talking point to yield the Vanniyar votes - reservation bill passed for the community. On Friday, the Tamil Nadu government had passed a bill providing 10.5% reservation for Vanniyars in education and employment in Tamil Nadu.

PMK has been demanding this reservation bill for many years and it also had urged the ADMK government to pass the bill ahead of the polls to continue in the alliance. The government has now adopted the bill which would be the only star point PMK would make in the campaign to cover the voters. On Saturday, PMK founder Ramadoss had tweeted in a fashion that the ADMK will be winning the upcoming polls only because it has provided the reservation bill for the Vanniyar Community.

Earlier on Saturday, Anbumani Ramadoss had thanked the Chief Minister for providing the reservation and now they had finalized the deal of the number of seats, hours ahead of Amit Shah's visit. The Union Home Minister will be arriving in Chennai on the night hours of Saturday and it has been expected that he will meet the ADMK leaders on Sunday over the seat-sharing for the polls for BJP. The reports say that the ADMK had agreed to offer 15 seats to the Central ruling party.

However, the BJP has demanded more seats due to which both the parties observe a deadlock. ADMK also had allied parties like Vijayakanth's DMDK and GK Vasan's TMC to accommodate in the seat-sharing. So far, PMK is the only party that had made the deal with ADMK over the seat-sharing. Tamil Nadu will go for a single-phase poll on April 6th and the results will be counted on May 2, during which the winner would be declared. It must be noted that PMK had contested independently in the 2016 polls and ended up winning no seats.
