Exciting Update: Brahmastra director reveals the release dates of Part Two and Three!

Brahmastra fans will have to wait longer for the epic conclusion of Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy trilogy starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. The director announced on Instagram that the second and third parts of the film. The first part of Brahmastra, which also features Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni, Mouni Roy and Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo, was released on September 9, 2022 after multiple postponements. 

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Ayan Mukerji dropped the surprise announcement by sharing the statement regarding the sequel commencement. The statement read, “The Time has come - for some updates on the Brahmastra Trilogy, the Astraverse, and my Life! After absorbing all the love and the feedback on Part One... I have been focused on creating the Vision for Part Two and Part Three -which I now know will be bigger and more ambitious than Part One!,”

“I have learnt that we need a little more time to perfect the script of Brahmastra Two and Three! And... I have decided that we are going to make the two films... Together! Allowing them to also release closer together! I have a timeline in place to achieve this, which I am sharing with you all today!  I also have another piece of news to share... ”

“The Universe has presented me with a very special opportunity recently - a very special movie - to step into and direct! What the movie is... More on that when the time is right :) An opportunity that challenges me and terribly excites me... one where I will learn, be inspired and where I will grow! So, I have decided to take it up!! Opening myself up to all the positive energies in this universe so I can do my best and contribute to that one thing that matters most to me - Indian Cinema!”, he added.

The director revealed that the film's second and third parts will be released in December 2026 and December 2027 respectively. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was a huge commercial success, grossing over ₹431 crores worldwide. The film follows Shiva, an orphan with pyrokinetic powers who discovers that he is an astra, a weapon of enormous energy. He attempts to prevent the strongest of the astral, the Brahmāstra, from falling into the hands of dark forces that share a history with him. 

Mukerji said that he had envisioned Brahmastra as a cinematic universe inspired by Indian mythology and history. He said that he had been working on the script of the second and third parts since 2011 and that they would be bigger and better than the first one. He also thanked his fans for their support and patience and promised to deliver a satisfying finale to the trilogy.

Brahmastra is produced by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Namit Malhotra, Mukerji, Ranbir Kapoor and Marijke DeSouza under Dharma Productions, Starlight Pictures, Prime Focus and Star Studios. The film’s music is composed by Pritam and Tanuj Tiku, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The film is distributed by Star Studios in India, 20th Century Studios in North America and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures internationally.
