The shooting of ‘Kanguva’ is currently underway in Kodaikanal, where director Shiva is filming the major periodic portions with Suriya and Disha Patani. The film was earlier announced in April 2019 under the working title Suriya 39, but it faced several delays due to various reasons. It was later reannounced in last year and the title ‘Kanguva’ was announced in April.

Now the countdown has begun for the grand birthday treat of Suriya’s fans. The teaser of ‘Kanguva’, the mega-budget period action drama starring Suriya in five roles, is all set to be released on July 23rd, marking the actor’s 47th birthday. The film, directed by Siruthai Siva, is one of the most awaited Kollywood movies of 2024.

‘Kanguva’, which means ‘Man with the power of Fire’, is said to be a mighty valiant saga that showcases Suriya in different avatars across different time periods. The film also marks the Tamil debut of Bollywood actress Disha Patani, who plays the female lead opposite Suriya. The supporting cast includes Yogi Babu, Redin Kingsley, Kovai Sarala, Anandaraj, Ravi Raghavendra, K. S. Ravikumar and B. S. Avinash.

The film is produced by K. E. Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green and V. Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati of UV Creations. The film has music composed by Devi Sri Prasad, cinematography by Vetri Palanisamy and editing by Nishadh Yusuf. Made on a budget of ₹350 crore (US$44 million), ‘Kanguva’ is the fifth most expensive Indian film to date.

The makers have also revealed that ‘Kanguva’ will have a sequel to follow, as the story is too vast to be told in one film. The sequel is expected to be released in late 2024 or early 2025. The fans are eagerly waiting for the teaser of ‘Kanguva’ to get a glimpse of Suriya’s multiple roles and the grandeur of the film. ‘Kanguva’ is scheduled to be released theatrically in early 2024 in 2D as well as 3D formats.
