The Erode East bypoll in Tamil Nadu is three weeks ahead from now and as the process of filing the nominations has ended on Tuesday - Febraury 7, the political parties are beefing up their campaigns at the constituency. The voters are awaiting the arrival of several bigheads in the campaign trail as the race is getting intensified each day.
As the DMK and its ally Congress have launched the campaign and are holding advantage to win the polls, the ruling party is in the process of strengthening its campaign and in the upcoming days, the constituency will witness the tour of popular leaders including Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and his father and Chief Minister MK Stalin. The father and son duo will visit Erode East at different days.
The bypoll is scheduled to be held on February 27 and the results will be declared on March 2. As DMK has awarded the seat to its ally Congress, the latter has fielded former Union Minister EVKS Elangovan as its candidate. According to reports, Chief Minister MK Stalin will campaign for Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan on February 24.
While MK Stalin would roll out his campaign in the Erode East constituency for a day, Udhayanidhi Stalin would be touring the constituency for three days. Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is among the 40 star campaigners from the DMK party, would visit Erode East on February 19. On his first leg of the tour, he would be covering 28 spots while he would cover 30 spots the following day as his second leg of the tour.
Udhayanidhi Stalin will join Chief Minister MK Stalin on February 24 as his third leg of the tour and would campaign for the Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan. Besides the Stalins, senior DMK leaders including Durai Murugan, TR Baalu, Kanimozhi, and A Raja would also be campaigning for Elangovan. The filing of nominations for the Erode East bypoll commenced on January 31 and the last date was February 7.
It has been reported that over 70 candidates had filed their nominations. While DMK's ally Congress has nominated Elangovan as its candidate, ADMK has fielded former MLA Thennarasu as its candidate. The parties like Vijayakanth's DMDK, Seeman's Naam Tamilar Katchi, and TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK had fielded their candidates and are contesting independently. As the bypoll is nearing, the Erode East constituency has been brought under a surveillance. The Erode East constituency has 1,10,713 men voters and 1,16,440 women voters.
