Eluru outbreak: Mysterious disease haunts Andhra Pradesh, puts many in nightmare!

In an unprecedented development, Andhra Pradesh has been surfaced with major concerns after witnessing what is yet to be identified by the health authorities and the sudden unfolding of the series of illness has put the state under the hands of baffle and perplexion amid combating the health crisis triggered by the COVID-19 outbreak. 

Eluru city in Andhra Pradesh has been victimized by the mysterious disease, which has been getting widely spread across its territory and putting thousands in the hospitals. The health authorities are yet to ascertain the cause and source of the disease and how it got spread. The bizarre circumstances had got nationwide attention after many residents of the state had fallen ill for the unknown disease and the magnitude of the situation had pushed the state and central authorities to roll out the swift identification of the disease and its cure. 

The shocking visuals from Andhra Pradesh had shown the residents falling sick and getting faltered in the spot on Sunday. According to reports, a mysterious disease had killed one life while around 292 people had fallen sick. Of these 292, over 140 patients have returned home after receiving treatment at local hospitals while the condition of the other patients remain stable and getting treated at the hospitals. 

All the patients had however tested negative for the COVID-19 pandemic. The authorities are yet to establish the source of what had caused the disease and people had suddenly lost their consciousness after suffering the symptoms of nausea and epilepsy, which had caused major concerns for the health officials in West Godavari district as it was the epicenter of this unknown disease. The state and central health authorities will be rushing to the district on Monday to address the unprecedented spread and to discover the cause and cure for the mysterious disease. 

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy had spoken with Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney and took stock of the situation and assured the state that the Central government is ready to extend all the possible help to the state. The reports say that the Union Home Ministry has been in touch with the Andhra Pradesh Governor, who has issued orders to the health authorities to ensure proper medical facilities and treatment for the affected persons. 

Though performing blood tests and CT scans (brain) on the affected persons, the health authorities couldn't able to come to the conclusion on the source of the disease and it has been reported that the cause of the disease might be unveiled only after the results of the culture tests. Speaking to PTI, Joint Collector of West Godavari district Himanshu Shukla said that E-coli results have been awaited and stated that the expert scientists from the National Institute of Nutrition and Indian Institute of Chemical Technology from Hyderabad would arrive in Eluru on Monday for diagnosing the cause of the disease. 

The district administration has installed a 24*7 control room in the Eluru Municipal corporation office exclusively for reporting and monitoring the disease. The authorities had collected the milk samples and dispatched them for further examination in Vijayawada. As nearly 300 people were hospitalized, a 45-year-old man, who was admitted to the Government Hospital in Eluru on Sunday after contracting the disease, had breathed his last on the evening hours of Sunday with the symptoms of nausea and epilepsy. 

Most of the affected people had made recovery within some time while some had remained unconscious following which they were rushed to the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada on Sunday for further treatments. According to reports, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy would be visiting Eluru on Monday to take stock of the situation and review the state's response to the mysterious disease. He will also be visiting the patients and meeting the health officials of the West Godavari district. Deputy Chief Minister of the state AKK Srinivas had visited the hospital on Sunday and asserted that there is no need to panic. 

The Deputy Chief Minister said that the test results had established that water contamination was not the cause of the mysterious disease and stated that most of the victims have recovered and others are stable. The state government has prepared 50 additional beds in the Vijayawada hospital to shift the patients under emergency and the health department has been attending to every affected patient. The reports say that special teams of doctors have been rushed to Eluru to treat the victims while the door-to-door survey has also been carried out to identify the affected patients. 

The health authorities have launched a probe into how the disease got spread amid the uncertainty. On the other hand, the opposition parties had blamed the ruling government for its apathy for the outbreak. TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh had visited the hospital and spoke to the victims and he slammed the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led ruling government for its negligence and he urged the state government to conduct a full-scale and transparent investigation and further stated that Eluru, which is the epicenter of the disease, should be declared with a health emergency.
