The election season will normally witness heated debates and counter-arguments between the candidates of the rival parties as they would display allegiance to their respective parties and would be finding prospects to attack each other and while both the rival candidates would prefer not to face each other on the campaign trail, what if both the candidates of the rival parties belong to one family and what if they happen to be brothers? Imagine how hard would it be to represent the rival parties by being brothers...
The Rajan brothers in Tamil Nadu are having such a hardship as the elder Rajan is the DMK candidate while his younger brother is the candidate of the ruling ADMK and both are contesting in the same constituency. Andipatti constituency in the Theni district is witnessing the race between the brothers Maharajan and Logirajan. Andipatti is one of the notable constituencies in Tamil Nadu as it had sent late Chief Ministers MG Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa to the assembly.
In the 2016 assembly polls, ADMK's candidate Thanga Tamil Selvan had won the seat by defeating DMK's Mookaiah in the margin of 30,000 votes. However, after the demise of Jayalalithaa, Thanga Tamil Selvan, who has a souring relationship with O Panneerselvam, had switched side and supported VK Sasikala. Tamil Selvan was one of the MLAs who had voted against the Edappadi Palaniswami's government in the trust vote following which he was disqualified by the House Speaker.
Following the disqualification, the by-election in Andipatti had held in 2019 and for the by-election, ADMK has fielded Andipatti Secretary Lokirajan as its candidate and DMK had fielded Lokirajan's elder brother Maharajan. In the by-election, DMK's Maharajan had defeated his own brother Lokirajan in the margin of 12,000 votes and through the victory, DMK had won the ADMK's two-decade stronghold of Andipatti.
As Tamil Nadu is three weeks away from the upcoming assembly polls, both DMK and ADMK had again fielded the brothers in Andipatti. DMK's Maharajan will be taking on ADMK's Lokirajan and the constituency is all set to witness the second direct clash between the brothers and as both the parties are hoping to win Andipatti, the brothers are getting ready for the battle, which will become one of the notable battles in the Tamil Nadu assembly polls.
Former legislator of Andipatti Thanga Tamil Selvan had joined Dhinakaran's AMMK after he was disqualified and later, he had joined DMK and Tamil Selvan will be contesting from Bodinayakanur constituency from DMK's ticket and he will be taking on Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Panneerselvam in the upcoming polls. Tamil Nadu will be going to the single-phase polls on April 6 and the votes will be counted on May 2, during which the results will be announced.
