Don't collect rent from the workers - Tamil Nadu Gov to the landlords!

Amid the Coronavirus outbreak, the state government of Tamil Nadu has poured in a major relief for the laborers, daily-wage workers, and students as the government has directed the landlords not to collect one-month rent from the tenants who have been suffering from the economical instability over the shutdown prevailing due to the global pandemic.

According to the order issued by the Chief Secretary of the state government on Tuesday, the landlords in the state shouldn't demand the payment of rent for one month from the workers including migrants who are rented for the accommodation in their properties and the government has warned the landlords that they will be liable for action if they force the laborers and students to vacate their premises.

These directives have been highlighted as the measures to mitigate the economic hardship of the migrant workers and the Chief Secretary has stated that the employers including the industries, shops, and commercial establishments should make the payment of the wages for their employees on the due date without making any deduction when their establishments remain closed during the lockdown.

The other state migrant workers who have moved out to reach their homes states should be kept under the nearest shelter by the respective district collector and Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation after the proper screening for 14 days as per the health protocol. Earlier, the state government has announced that it would procure over 14 lakh packets of basic food supplies and the aid package will be distributed to the workers of the unorganized sector in the state.

The aid package would consist of 15 kilograms of rice, one kilogram of dal and a liter of oil and 14,57,526 kits with these food supplies would be acquired through the state civil supplies corporation at the total cost of Rs 93.21 crore and upon the procurement, the kits would be provided to the workers who are registered under unorganized sector workers welfare boards and the district collectors would be providing the kits to the workers in their respective districts With the view of relaxing the uncertainty endured by the workers.
