Tamil Cinema has always been coming through the movies that reiterate the reformations through the ages. Societal reformation, political reformation followed by reformations in education and agriculture corridors were some of the topics that upheld by the movies for stressing the need for reformations. Recently, Tamil movies have been getting collated with the stories of women-centric, speaking their rights and empowerment and on the educational and agricultural reformations. By picturizing the real impact of the cybercrime through his movie 'Irumbu Thirai', director Mithran has paired with Actor Sivakarthikeyan to speak and to stress the realignment of the scattered educational corridors through his latest edition of 'Hero'. Did the movie successfully seeded its motive?
'If a student was asked about his desire and ambition, he would say that he wish to become a doctor to save the lives or wish to become police to secure his hometown or wish to join the Army to protest his country' but the student would eventually forget his ambitions because of the prevailing educational system' - this was the epi-centric core of the movie. Precisely, 'Hero' has widely spoken about the imbalanced educational standards and how to carpet the change and the reformation in the corridors and education and how to barricade the business inside the circle of education. Despite its wide spoken message, has it went deep into the crater?
Sivakarthikeyan is a fan of 'Shaktimaan' and living with the desire of becoming a superhero at his young age and although being intelligent in education, he pushed to work as the producer of fake certificates due to some circumstances and in line with that, he also earns a commission from the colleges for admitting the students. On the other side, Actor Arjun is committed to web the failed and oppressed students to train and educate them in their interests and in science through which they unveil the new inventions. The rest of the story is about how Sivakarthikeyan reached Arjun and how he transforms from being a normal man to a 'Superhero' and what he has achieved with the tag of a superhero.
Director Mithran has to be lauded for his second society centric movie that speaks the defects in our educational systems, the plight of the talented and worthy students who were ignored and rejected based on the examinations and exploring the reason of backtracking in the technology and the inventions despite the greater availability of the resources. The actor must inevitably be having the need, reason and the possibility of becoming a superhero that speaks about the subject of a superhero. In that way, the first half had scripted with the transformation of a real hero but it has somehow lapsed in the second half that rolls out with the untoward romance and comedy scenes. The movie, that speaks about the hindrance of the education and the prospects of the higher education, had seemingly pictured the baffle that presented the dusky clouds of knowing the exact stand of the director and the story.
After the screenplay dispersed the dusky clouds, it rolls on with the scenes of a superhero. A stunt scene carried out by Sivakarthikeyan as a superhero stood at the expected level but apart from that, his rest of the acting as superhero had slipped away with the unclarity on what exactly has to be achieved. Villain Abhay Deol had added more unclarity and deviations in his role. Deol acted as the Chief of an educational institution and he makes sure to keep his presence wherever new inventions unveiled and he destroys the inventions but the screenplay and the story failed to capture the reason behind his intention of destroying the inventions that raise hundreds of questions on why an educationalist must be holding this kind of motive and at one stage, Abhay Deol incites to think that he ain't has no other major role which majorly kept the story far away from the audiences.
The movie looks elegant in the angle of technology and the Cinematography of George C.Williams and the editing of Ruben had kept its quality and Yuvan Shankar Raja's background score had aided the quality that had enhanced the pictures and the sense of watching the movie. But on the other hand, the songs just pass by without attracting the attention that literally showcased whether Yuvan failed to concentrate on the songs. Despite the lapses, Sivakarthikeyan had kept his full contribution towards the story and the dialogues he expressed on the educational standards had lively erupted the frustrations and Arjun again proved and retained his title of 'Action Hero' while Robo Shankar brings laughter for the limited times whereas Abhay Deol seemed to be trapped in the nets of the story and gets added to the list of the North Indian villains who slipped away from living up to the role. Actress Kalyani Priyadharsan had seemingly awarded the weakened role but she delivered justice and Ivana stands close to the heart through the acting but her language and proficiency in Tamil had kept distanced her from the audiences.
The 'Hero' written by P.S Mithran, Pon Parthiban, and two others had seeded good societal messages but the movie would be celebrated if it could be scripted with the in-depth reality, with the clear stand and with the screenplay of reflecting the thrilling and interesting scenes.
