Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi had visited Chennai for the first time after securing massive victory in 2019 Lok Sabha polls to attend the 56th convocation ceremony at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras where he was received by the state Governor, the state Chief minister and the pack of cabinet ministers, who had flagged grand welcome at the Chennai airport along with the state's BJP leaders H Raja and former BJP MP Pon Radhakrishnan.
As an unusual gesture, Narendra Modi had addressed the massive gathering which gathered to welcome him at the airport where he took the prospect to recall and to picture his speech at the United Nations General Assembly last week in which he called Tamil language as an ancient language. Speaking before the gathering, Narendra Modi proclaimed that Tamil language has been echoing and vibrating across the United States.
From Chennai airport, he was directly escorted to the grounds of IIT through the chopper where he took the stage to address the students of IIT where he said that the future and destiny of India can collectively be seen from the eyes of the students and he branded IIT as a prime example of how an institution can account for huge transformation through setting up the research center.
After concluding his address at the convocation ceremony, he had felicitated the winners and praised the participants of the 2nd edition of India- Singapore joint hackathon, which, he quoted would play a strong role towards establishing workable and cost effective solutions to India and to the problems prevailing beyond the borders and he added that these solutions would shape India into $5 trillion economy.
The first such hackathon was hosted by Nanyang Technical University in Singapore while IIT had hosted the second episode of hackathon which saw the participants from both the countries.
Lask week, Narendra Modi was touring the parts of the United States where he sat up for discussions with foreign leaders in the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and in his UN address and in 'Howdy,Modi' event in Houston, he had highlighted the language diversity in India where in his UN address, he referred to an ancient poet of Tamil Sangam era "Kaniyan Pungundranar" while quoting about the diversity.
His confession and notion on Tamil language comes nearly after a fortnight since one of his reliable commanders and Union Home minister Amit Shah had called on India to unite under the common language that will represent the country at globally where he affirmed that Hindi is one such language that will unite the country. Soon he had spilled out controversial statement, the opposition parties had mounted with series of accusations against Amit Shah and the Central government for attempting to impose Hindi where the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu were among the fierce voice against such one language system and the main opposition party of Tamil Nadu DMK had announced that the party will flag district level protests across the state and demanded the Prime minister to issue the stance of his government.
Since it had erupted heated arguments across the state, the state Governor had directly called on the leadership of DMK where the Raj Bhavan had held discussions on the matter after which, the reports had said, with assurance from Governor that Hindi won't be imposed on states, DMK had said that it would withdraw the announcements of district level protests.
