Tamil Cinema has the history of unfolding the movies of all the genres with some soared high while some stooped low and one among such genre is 'Anthology' which can precisely be known as a Literacy genre that presents the combination of a collection of the stories in a single movie. The books of Tamil Cinema hasn't scripted with many chapters about this genre as only least numbers of stories had pictured from the base of this one and nevertheless, it ain't reached the expected peak of having the visibility of the audience and 'Sillu Karupatti' is the latest exploration of this genre but unlike the preceding ones, this movie has planted the hope of how anthology works and how sweet it would be if it's cooked with the ingredients of everlasting memories that would stay close to the hearts of the audience.
It's known fact that the Tamil movies have the unwritten meaning beneath most of the stories- the crater or the centerpiece of the movie, the characters which are tuned to march towards the centerpiece, it should be scripted with the barriers and twists to impress the audience and to keep their curiosity alive throughout the running time. Are these become inevitable to direct the movie? It was and not now as director Halitha Shameem holds the courtesy that the movie can also be directed more sweetly, peacefully, and beautifully through her latest movie 'Sillu Karupatti' which is one such movie that serves the essence of the natural sweet and natural love.
The movie revolves around four stories - 'Pink bag', 'Kaaka Kadi', 'Turtle Walk', and 'Hey Ammu' and these four different stories have a unique selling point - 'Love'. The director has naturally pictured the love of different ages without the overdose of the sweet. Maanja, a teenaged boy, who grabs his daily needs from the trash full of wastes thrown by the wealthy people in the city, finds his love in the garbage. He falls in love with Mitty (Deivamagal Sara) after he gets to see the stuff and the pink bag daily in the garbage and he tries to meet her and their meeting was not filled with the problems as we think but it crafts and ends with the sweet poetry.
The second stage is 'Kaaka Kadi' speaks about the love between an IT employee and meme creator Manikandan and Fashion Designer Nivedhitha in the contemporary and realistic fashion. Nivedhitha's support for cancer affected Manikandan would seemingly have the possibilities of becoming a relationship goal and like the first one, this too ends sweetly without disturbing and teasing the expectations of the audiences and like her first movie 'Poovarasam Peepee', director Halitha Shameem dares to speak the unspoken. The Turtle Walk, which is the third part of the movie, pictures about the timed out and the successful love story between Yashodha (Leela Samson) and Navaneethan ( Sri Ram) which perfectly portrays the necessity of having the companion - the best companion indeed, during the period when the closest relatives stay far away in the relation and this part has packed with the matured dialogues resembling the reality added with naughty talks.
By shrinking in his work and his mobile phone, Auditor Dhanapal (Samuthirakani) travels at his middle age with the busy-ness while his wife Amuthini (Sunaina) invests her time and her day throughout maintaining the home and the fourth part 'Hey Ammu' brings down the widening gap between the cracked couple and this part clearly and extensively covered the real-time issues in the family that erupt either due to the lack of involvement in the family or due to the pressure in the work and it also speaks about the apathy on the neighbors and travels with the lesson on the relationship- not a serious one, it also has been packed with the laughter.
The movie has pulled the gravity and the curiosity of the audience through the interesting and comedic dialogues and the screenplay is where director Halitha Shameem has revealed her smartness through placing the stories in the right spots and the right time and right inside the minds of the audiences and the sweetness of each story delivered justice to the movie and it's not the sweetness of the white sugar but its the essence of everlasting sweetness of Jaggery, a traditional cane sugar - the natural sweetness of the natural story.
The acting of Samuthirakani - Sunaina and Manikandan-Nivedhitha had attracted the audience through their natural performances while the rest of artists had come near to the peak of flagging the justice and the background music of Pradeep Kumar has drizzled throughout the movie and the cinematography of Abinanthan, Manoj Paramahamsa, Vijay Karthik, and Yamini had carried the story close to the heart. Halitha Shameem took charge of the editing and she has nailed it with her best efforts.
The movie may raise some of the questions on whether it's really possible to meet scores of time through traveling in Ola and it that possible to use 'Alexa' in these ways and the fourth part of the story may resemble with the repeated scenes but we can get passed these questions for the director like Halitha Shameem who has presented with the good and natural story with everlasting and natural sweetness.
