After DMK's sitting treasurer Duraimurugan has tendered his resignation from the post on Monday, it has become apparent that he will be elevated to be the successor of K Anbazhagan, the long-time General Secretary of the party who had demised earlier this month. The deceased leader has held one of the party's top posts for over 43 years and since the talk erupted within the party to replace him, all eyes were kept on Duraimurugan as he is the senior-most leader in the party's second line of the leadership.

As we reported earlier, Duraimurugan would be appointed as the party's next General Secretary unopposed as he has got strong support from DMK's President MK Stalin. Duraimurugan has been the front runner for the race on the track while the senior leaders like TR Baalu, EV Velu, Ponmudi, A Raja, and KN Nehru have been racing to take the throne. Duraimurugan has won the race following which he has moved his resignation to get elevation in return.

Our sources say that his resignation has been accepted by Stalin making Duraimurugan with no barrier before him while getting elected as General Secretary. While Duraimurugan succeeds Anbazhagan, the question is who would replace Duraimurugan as the party's treasurer and Duraimurugan's resignation has already whistled the race for treasurer. The same batch of senior leaders - TR Baalu, A Raja, EV Velu, Ponmudi, KN Nehru, and Kanimozhi have been vying to acquire the post of the party's treasurer that was once decorated by Karunanidhi and Stalin before becoming the party's presidents.

These leaders have been lobbying Stalin to win the race and our sources revealed that after two days of series discussions at the party headquarters, Stalin has picked TR Baalu as the party's next treasurer and Baalu's name was finalized with the view of pacifying him after the post of Principal Secretary, that was held by Baalu, was awarded to another senior leader KN Nehru. Our sources say that the party's leadership has been trying to pacify the senior leaders by providing other important roles in the party.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Stalin stated that the party has convened a meeting of its general council on March 29th at the party's headquarters to elect the party's new general secretary. As per DMK's regulations, the posts of President, General Secretary, and Treasurer will be elected by the general council and according to the reports, the general council will also elect a new treasurer. As per the latest reports, Duraimurugan and TR Baalu will be elected unopposedly as General Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
