In a shocking development, DMK MP Kanimozhi has on Saturday tested positive for the COVID-19 viral infection, three days ahead of the assembly polls. She has actively been campaigning for the party across the state and she has now canceled the rest of the campaigns after confirmed to have contracted the novel coronavirus.
The development has come when the state has been witnessing the exponential rise in fresh COVID-19 cases. According to reports, Kanimozhi has canceled her campaigns and at first, she has isolated herself at her residence in Chennai. However, the DMK MP has now been admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Chennai. Kanimozhi had been staunchly campaigning in the southern districts by taking charge of the campaign drive in the southern zone.
Kanimozhi had developed fever two days back when she was campaigning in Theni. She returned to Chennai and she has complained of breathing discomfort in the morning hours of Saturday following which she had undergone COVID-19 testing. The result returned positive confirming that she had contracted the viral infection.
She was initially under home quarantine and later she had admitted herself to Apollo Hospital. The development has come three days ahead of the crucial assembly polls and a day ahead of the deadline of the campaign. After Kanimozhi had tested positive, people who came in close contact with her are asked to get tested for the viral infection. The DMK MP has tested positive when Chennai is being surfaced with a warning that the lockdown and strict restrictions could be imposed again after the election.
According to the state health department, Tamil Nadu has reported 8,92,780 COVID-19 cases so far as of Friday including 3,290 cases that were reported on Friday. Of the total cases, 18,606 are active, 8,61,424 have been discharged, and 12,750 had succumbed to the viral infection.
