Deceased Tamil Nadu legislator and one of the senior DMK leaders Anbazhagan was buried in Kannammapet burial ground next to his father's burial site, leaving his fellow party members and followers in huge grief and distress as the legislator has passed away on Wednesday morning in Chennai due to COVID-19 and he has become the first sitting legislator succumbed to the pandemic in India.
Anbazhagan was aged 62 and he has died on his 62nd birthday at Dr.Rela Institute of Medical Center where he was admitted on June 2nd for the treatment. He was tested positive for the Coronavirus and was under ventilator support. However, he has passed away on Wednesday as his health hasn't responded to the treatments and medications and news of his demise had disheartened the party members who were hoping for his recovery.
Following his demise, the members gathered at the hospital and paid their last respect to one of the fierce supporters of DMK's President MK Stalin. Since the legislator has succumbed to the pandemic, the Chennai Corporation has ensured to have a safe burial as per the standard operating procedures. As the lockdown has barred the large scale funeral, it was decided that the mortal remains of the deceased leader can be buried at the Kannammapet crematorium.
As per the decision, his body was escorted to the burial ground with police security and senior party leaders on Wednesday afternoon. The corporation staff, wearing protective gear, had buried his body next to his father's burial site as the leaders, followers, and public paid their last respects at the burial ground as he was laid down to rest after losing the battle against COVID-19.
DMK President MK Stalin and senior leaders had paid a floral tribute to the deceased leader to his portrait at the party headquarters of Anna Arivalayam in Chennai. Stalin has grieved the loss of Anbazhagan and offered his eulogy in his address. He said his heart refuses to accept that Anbazhagan was passed away. By recalling his contribution, Stalin asked "how will I solace your family members when I'm unable to console myself and when will I see your affectionate face again?
Anbazhagan was a son of Pazhakadai Jayaraman who was also former DMK MLA and Anbazhagan has served as MLA for three times and he has also served as one of the party's secretaries in Chennai and he could have contracted to the virus when he was on the ground and distributing relief materials to the affected people in the COVID-19 hotspots of Chennai.
