DMK vs 'K'DMK: New tension for Stalin! Is he prepared for the fresh conflict?

In what could be an irking and unhappy development for DMK President MK Stalin, his elder brother MK Alagiri, who was expelled from the party six years ago, has been preparing to unleash his politics, which likely would disturb the DMK voter base and Stalin's stronghold in Madurai and other southern districts of Tamil Nadu ahead of the assembly polls.

With his elder brother getting ready to launch his separate chapter of politics, Stalin could be facing a setback and trouble within the party at a high time when he has been hoping to have a breakthrough as the DMK President in the assembly polls, the first since the demise of political giants Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa. It would be the first state election for Stalin as the DMK President so is for Edappadi Palaniswami as the Chief Minister.

Amid such developments, Stalin's leader brother MK Alagiri, who remained on silent mode in politics for the past six years, has now been preparing to get active in politics. According to reports, MK Alagiri has been expected to launch his new political party in the state and his new party will likely be named Kalaignar DMK or KDMK.

With the heated speculations around him over the launch of the party, Alagiri has also been surfaced with speculations where some reports say that he has been in talks with the Central ruling BJP about the possibility of getting allied with the BJP's alliance in the state, which also has ruling ADMK in it.

While some of the reports close to the developments said that Alagiri could join the BJP alliance ahead of the 2021 assembly polls, the expelled DMK leader is yet to clear the air on such speculations.  The reports say that the BJP has been in talks with several people in the state including Alagiri to cover them under its saffron roof. It has been said that the former Union minister could meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah when the latter is visiting Chennai on November 21.

Alagiri could either launch a new political party or could get allied with the BJP alliance and whatever he does, it could be disturbing MK Stalin when he has been preparing to take over the reign from the ADMK with the landslide majority. If Alagiri goes ahead with his plan of unveiling his politics ahead of the assembly polls, the DMK and Stalin's stronghold in the key southern districts would get collapsed as Alagiri still has a powerful political base in Madurai and southern districts.

It has been expected that Alagiri could flip Stalin's stronghold to his side after launching the party and if he allies with the BJP - ADMK alliance, the DMK would further face more challenges in building its rule in the state. Alagiri was expelled from DMK in 2014 and reports close to him say that he has been expecting that the current DMK leadership would induct him again at the party. At the current state, he will launch a new political party and would decide to contest independently as an emerging rival of DMK.

The tussle between the brothers -Alagiri and Stalin began when the talks in the party emerged on who would be succeeding Karunanidhi and lead the party after him. The dispute between them was active for decades and Alagiri was suspended from the party in January 2014 when his father Karunanidhi was the party's president. However, Alagiri was completely expelled from the party in March 2014 for anti-party activities.

Following that, Stalin had emerged as the successor for Karunanidhi and Stalin took over the party's leadership after the demise of his father. After his termination, Alagiri went to the silent mode and he was with Stalin when the brothers paid their last respects to their father Karunanidhi in 2018. Earlier, Alagiri said that he was ready to accept Stalin's leadership if he was admitted to the party again.

On the other hand, MK Stalin is not ready to permit Alagiri into the party to ensure that he holds the entire power in the party. As Stalin hopes to become the next Chief Minister, he is getting ready to face ADMK and take over the reign after a decade. But, as Alagiri prepares to unveil his politics, Stalin has been surfaced with questions that whether he is ready to meet the new challenges or he has plans to keep the party united under his full control.
