Following the anti-CAA resolution adopted by the Kerala legislative assembly, Tamil Nadu state opposition leader and DMK president M.K. Stalin has, on Tuesday, urged the ruling ADMK state government to pass a similar resolution in the state's assembly to ensure that the controversial and biased CAA and NRC won't be implemented in the state.
The state of Kerala, which is one of the strongest critics of the CAA and NRC, has adopted the resolution moved by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the legislative assembly on Tuesday and the resolution was adopted by assembling the members for the one-day special session and the resolution was unanimously supported by the ruling Communist and opposition Congress party members while BJP's single MLA in the house Rajagopal had voted against the bill. By passing the resolution, Kerala has become the first state to adopt such a resolution in India.
Hours after the passage of the resolution, Tamil Nadu's opposition leader M.K. Stalin expressed his happiness and welcomed the move of adopting the resolution and he also urged the Tamil Nadu government to pass such resolution in its assembly. In his address through Twitter, Stalin said that by taking note of the wide-spread movement against the law, all the state assemblies must pass the anti-CAA resolution. He demanded the ADMK government to pass the resolution in the state assembly when the House gather on January 6th, 2020.
Stalin's notion comes amidst the agitations and uproar across the nation that were spurred by the passage of the biased Citizenship Amendment Act. ADMK party, which observes the closest ally with the Central BJP party, had voted in favor of the bill in Rajya Sabha that had let the bill to have the clear and convenient passage in the Upper house where BJP lacks the majority. DMK party has accused the ADMK government that, by favoring the bill the ruling party had betrayed the Sri Lankan Tamils who have been ignored in the bill from availing Indian Citizenship and it must be recalled that on December 23rd, DMK party, along with the other opposition parties, held a huge procession against the CAA in Chennai.
On Monday, the DMK leaders had extended their solidarity to the residents of the Besant Nagar who were detained by the police for drawing anti-CAA kolams in front of their residences that had seen widespread protests across the state.
