DMK sets foot in Delhi...MK Stalin takes the big baton: Will he succeed in his mission?

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has on Saturday - April 2 inaugurated DMK's office in New Delhi in the presence of national leaders. He is currently on his Delhi tour and after calling on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a few Union Ministers, he had inaugurated the party's office. The newly constructed office sits on Deendayal Upadhyay Marg close to the BJP's Central headquarters. 

DMK's office has been named 'Anna- Kalaignar Arivalayam' and erected as a three-storey building. The then Central ruling UPA government has provided lands to the political parties that had more than seven MPs in the Parliament, inclusive of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The land was allotted for DMK in 2013 and nearly a decade later, the party has established its base in Delhi through this brand-new office.

DMK, which currently rules Tamil Nadu, has planned to inaugurate in a grand fashion by inviting several national leaders including from the BJP. MK Stalin has inaugurated the DMK's office during the evening hours of Saturday. While MK Stalin had inaugurated the office, DMK's General Secretary Duraimurugan has unveiled former Chief Ministers and Dravidian stalwarts CN Annadurai and M Karunanidhi's busts. 

Several national leaders from Congress president Sonia Gandhi, CPI General Secretary D Raja, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav, P Chidambaram, VCK's Thol Thirumavalavan, Vaiko, to several Tamil Nadu Ministers. Sonia Gandhi has lighted the lamp and she also had inaugurated the library inside the DMK's office. During the event, veteran journalist N Ram has released the book 'Karunanidhi - A Life' and Sonia Gandhi has bought the first copy. 

Chief Minister MK Stalin has released the book 'A Dravidian Journey'. The inauguration event has drawn national attention as it has converged a slew of national leaders. By inaugurating the office in the presence of national leaders, MK Stalin has taken the baton of uniting the opposition parties against the BJP. Ahead of the inauguration, Stalin has on Friday said that the Congress, left, and all state parties must unite to take on the BJP. 

He also had urged Congress to develop a principled friendship with the parties at the all India level, similar to Tamil Nadu. In an interview with PTI, MK Stalin said, "My plea is that if we want to preserve India's diversity, federalism, democracy, secularism, equality, fraternity, state rights, education rights, we must all leave aside our individual political mindsets and unite." "All parties must realize that unity is strength. Everyone must come together to save India", he added. 

He further said, "Our importance in national politics has always been there. DMK has always been the party that plays a key role in who can become the Prime Minister or President of the country." By citing that the DMK is now the third-largest party in Parliament, Stalin said, "I do not think there is a difference between state politics and national politics. National politics is the combination of the politics of states. Therefore, the two cannot be separated." 

He stated, "Opposing BJP is not any personal hatred of a political party. You should not think so. We criticize the policies of the BJP, not of individual persons. So all our criticisms are principled. We will do it forever...in any context." "For me, all state parties opposing BJP should join hands with Congress and the Left to form a team against BJP", he added.
