In a shocking development, the wife of a DMK leader has committed suicide at her residence in Kodungaiyur in the outskirts of Chennai on Tuesday. The local police department has registered a case and launched a probe into the death.

According to reports, the wife of DMK's spokesperson Tamilan Prasanna has taken the extreme step of ending her life on Tuesday. Prasanna is one of the leaders close to the party's high command and he is widely known for taking part in debates and talk shows on various television channels representing the DMK. 

Prasanna's wife 35-year-old Nathiya has committed suicide on Tuesday at the residence in Kodungaiyur. After knowing the development, the local police have been investigating with the DMK leader and the relatives to ascertain the cause behind the suicide. The sources said that Nathiya had celebrated her birthday on Tuesday.

The preliminary inquiry has revealed that Nathiya had asked Prasanna to arrange for a grand birthday celebration. However, the DMK leader had refused her request post which the couple had developed an argument and tussle. After the tussle, Nathiya had decided to end her life by committing suicide. The police had recovered the body and sent for an autopsy.

The reports say that Prasanna has arrived at the Kodungaiyur police station where the police officials had investigated him in his wife's suicide. Lawyer by profession, Prasanna was residing in Erukkanchery in Kodungaiyur. The couple had three children and the police have been carrying out the investigation with the families and relatives of the couple.
