The DMK party has temporarily suspended legislator Ku Ka Selvam from the party and relieved him from the party's posts for breaching the party's protocol. The development has come a day after DMK's MLA Selvam met with the top BJP leaders in Delhi in what was speculated that the Dravidian party leader is switching his side to the saffron camp.
Along with the suspension, the DMK leadership has sent a show-cause notice for the legislator asking him to respond on why he should not be removed from the primary membership of the party. In a statement, DMK President MK Stalin said that Selvam has been relieved from the posts of the DMK headquarters and executive committee member with the immediate effect.

Stalin further said that Ku Ka Selvam has been suspended for violating party discipline and bringing disrepute for the party and his explanation has been demanded. According to the reports, the speculations surfaced around Ku Ka Selvam that he is going to join the BJP party had triggered shockwaves from the DMK party and its leaders, and on Tuesday, the reports confirmed that Selvam will be joining the BJP party in the presence of JP Nadda in Delhi.
As speculated, he went to Delhi and he met with JP Nadda along with BJP Tamil Nadu President Murugan and agitated DMK leader VP Duraisamy, who recently joined BJP. After the meeting, Selvam met with the reporters during which he denied the claims that he will be joining BJP. During his address, he lauded Modi's governance and thanked his efforts to construct the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
By denying that he is not joining BJP, Selvam said he came to Delhi to meet Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to move his petition of installing two elevators in the Nungambakkam railway station, which falls under his legislative constituency of Thousand Lights in Chennai. He went on to urge the DMK leadership to revoke the alliance with the Congress party which is blocking Modi's good governance.
He demanded Stalin to voice against the responsible people who made derogatory remarks about Lord Murugan and the Hindu Devotional Song 'Kandha Sashti Kavacham'. While responding to the question of the party's action, Selvam asserted that he is ready to face any action from the party. The reports say that the development has unfolded the intra-party furor in the DMK party and the party members had asked the leadership to take action against Selvam.
Following that, Stalin has, on Wednesday, temporarily suspended Ku Ka Selvam from the party and issued a show-cause notice against the legislator. On the other hand, suspended leader Ku Ka Selvam has visited the BJP office in Chennai after being suspended. While the BJP leaders have been celebrating the Ram temple ceremony, Selvam accused the DMK of functioning as a family's party.

According to the reports, Ku Ka Selvam was expecting the post of party's district secretary for the Chennai west region, which was earlier held by J Anbalagan, who died of COVID-19 in June. While he hoped for the post, DMK's leadership awarded the post for Chitrarasu, who is a member of DMK Youth Wing and close to Stalin's son Udayanidhi Stalin. After knowing the development, Selvam had dissented against the party and decided to join the party's rival, the BJP party.
