DMK expels MLA Ku Ka Selvam from the party! Here's what Stalin said

Days after issuing the temporary suspension from the party for breaching the protocols, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has, on Thursday, announced that party MLA Ku Ka Selvam has been permanently dismissed from the party after the legislator had dissented against the leadership and met with the BJP National leaders, signaling that he will be switching side to the saffron camp.

In a statement issued on Thursday, DMK President MK Stalin said the senior party functionary and executive committee member, who was suspended from the party, has been violating the party regulations, bringing dishonor to the party, and for indulging in the anti-party activities.. As his response to the explanation was not satisfactory, he is therefore been dismissed permanently from the party from the basic membership and all other given responsibilities.

Ku Ka Selvam has been representing Thousand Lights constituency in the current assembly as the DMK MLA. He has been one of the senior leaders of the party in Chennai and he expected the party leadership that he will be given with the post of the party secretary of Chennai West, which was previously held by J Anbalagan, who succumbed to the COVID-19 viral infection on June 10.

However, the DMK leadership has given the post for a youth wing member, close to Stalin's son Udayanithi Stalin following which Selvam was said to be in displeasure and it was speculated that he would switch the party and would join DMK's rival BJP. As per the speculations, Selvam went to Delhi along with BJP Tamil Nadu leaders and met with BJP President JP Nadda.

While it was said that he would be joining BJP in the presence of JP Nadda, Selvam maintained that he came to Delhi to meet Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal asking the latter to install two elevators in the Nungambakkam Railway station, that falls under his constituency. He then went to meet the Tamil Nadu BJP leaders and he attended the event at the state party headquarters on August 5 when the Prime Minister was laying the foundation stone for Lord Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Following the developments, the DMK party has temporarily suspended Ku Ka Selvam from the party and issued a show-cause notice to the legislator asking him why shouldn't he be expelled from the party.  In his reply to the notice, Selvam said the party has suspended him without hearing his side. However, Selvam went to challenge the DMK party to dismiss him and he called fellow DMK members to the BJP by stating that the functionaries above 55 years of age don't have a future in the DMK.

Following his statement, the DMK has, on Thursday, permanently dismissed him from the party by citing that he had violated the party regulations and he has been bringing dishonor to the party. Ku Ka Selvam is the second senior leader to join BJP from DMK in recent times as in May, DMK's then deputy general secretary VP Duraisamy has joined the BJP and he has been appointed as the Vice President of the Tamil Nadu BJP unit.
